Anyone affraid of their Z being like a civic????
Well I'm thinking of buying Z tomorrow but I just don't want another car that everyone will be driving. Like a civic. I was a civic owner before. I had it all moded up but there were just too many. I totalled the damn thing so now I want a new car. The Z is the answer but will it have the same rep as a civic? I'm tired of being like everyone else.

Nope, the Z will never be like the Civic.
This is no econobox, and is well out of reach (monetarily) of the little kids that can barely afford Civics. With such instances, those kids look to personalize their cars for individuality and performance (at times overly where they are sometimes deemed to be "rice").
The Z, besides being quite pricier than the Civ, is more expensive long run with maintenance (engine upkeep, tires!!!, etc.), registration (speaking from CA), gas (premium only), insurance (sports car, Civ is not), etc.
The RSX may be what you are afraid of what may become a Civic. Heck, they are virtually the same car.

The Z is far from the praticality of a Civic. You're comparing a sports car to an affordable/ gas efficient commuter car.
Based on my experiences, Parents like to buy their teens civics because they are affordable and easy on insurance. It is not hard for a kid to mod a civic. On the other hand... I know older folks who like to tune civics out of pure challenge. It's the people's and can be applied to anyone's life..therefore they're going to be everywhere.
I see 3-series bimmers everywhere but will I ever consider them the same as civics?? hELL no!
If the Z somehow gets the same rep as a civic....the world would be a dangerous place. Imagine how many highschool kids you'd see gunning down the streets in their 400hp+ 350z's!

z will never be a civic... true
but that doesnt mean someone wont try 2 "rice" out a z...
for example.. last friday i went to a local club here in atlanta called club europe... there was a lemans(sp?) sunset out in the front... it had a DC sports sticker on the side windows, a nopi sticker in the back, a raised oakley sticket in the front window and neons inside the car....
i was pretty frightened by the site

what the original poster means (i think) is that everyone and their mom is buying a Z; they are everywhere; the most bought sports car like ever because nissan marketed it like mad and made it at a reasonable price. it seems he doesnt want to be the same as everybody else, and the z's onthe street are growing at the rate so that soon there will be as many Zs as civics.

What's all the worry about? I don't think they made more than 25-28k for 2003 and I doubt there will be many more for '04. I could be wrong on the numbers but I gaurantee its close. Corvettes sell in greater numbers than that. No one is sweating about the Corvettes being in such high production.

From a purely production numbers standpoint at this point, you are not going to see anywhere near the number of Zs on the road as you do Civics. Now as time passed there willl be more and more Zs on the road but there will also be more and more Civics as well so I think you are still safe. Now, if you are worried about seeing Zs with huge wings and ugly body kits, well, it is going to happen. Just because you can afford the car doesn't mean that you have good taste in aftermarket parts.

i look at it this way; the more they make, the less my Z will stand out, and the smaller chance that some jealous moron will key/ding/mess with my car. Right now the car gets way too much attention...this is a bad thing. Brings out the 'hater' in people. Then again i'm not one of those people that bought the Z for attention...although sometimes I admit with the ladies it is a side benefit .

Considering that Civics sell about 30,000 per month (this in the 2001 model year...couldn't find current numbers) versus the 350Z's number of 30,000 per year, I think the answer is a simple NO.
P.S. Honda just celebrated the production of the 15 millionth Civic. This is a worldwide statistic, since the vehicle's inception in the early 70s. I think it's still safe to infer that there are a few million Civics driving around in the US, numbers that the Z will never near a fraction of.

Actually, the 350Z is much more likely to become the new Eclipse (previous gen). The 95-00 Eclipse was (and still is, IMO) an attractive design, but affordability => lots of sales => seeing them everywhere => 'wow' factor reduced to near zero.

Well. Those of us in LA know full well, that it matters not how many of any car you see around. One of the most common cars I see on a daily basis on my way to and from work, are Porsche 911's. Wouldn't make me not want one. I also see more Ferarri's on the roads around here than Z's. I don't give two *****. Well, I can't really say that, cause I was starting to get a little bummed when I moved out here and there were mustangs EVERYWHERE when I owned my mustang, but it didn't bother me all that much. Bothered me more just the fact that I had a POS v6 mustang, heh.

I do see 1 or 2 350Z's a day. That's not too bad considering I see about 200 BMW's daily.
I'd have to say here in LA, especially in and around the valley, there seems to be more BMW's than civics or any other cars.
