Default 1st trip to Z Dealer

So I saw a few Z's at my local dealer, both slightly used 03's, one base w/ aero and side bags and one enthusist with no options. They wanted $30K for either one. The both have about 5,000 miles.

We go inside to talk price and they wont budge an inch from $29k for either. Making it even better, I find that they were Nissan Demo cars and they've been using them as demo's because, "people that buy a 35k car don't want any miles on them."

What do you think would be a fair price, considering that a) the cars have been used as Demo's for 5k miles and that b) they made a point to boast that their Z's are priced at MSRP (While they're used ones are price over???). Am I to assume that people that buy $30k cars like to over pay and have cars with 5,000 demo miles.

Any thoughts, I started off the offering $24k not expecting to close the deal but figured it was a jump off. Once I found out they were demos I felt they lost even more value as they've gotten value from them and they were likely pused harder than the average new car. They wouldn't deal so I walked...

I'm I correct that both of those cars were overpriced?

Thanks.

I actually got my sunset performance 6mt Z for $28k with 5k miles here in Northern Virginia. Basically, it came with all floor mats (trunk and seat) and the aero package.

I think 30 is definitely way high, 29 is probably as well.

I'd suggest checking around on the net, and see if you can find any other Zs with similar milage.

Good luck

Search this site for Nick800...he is selling his LS Performance with low miles for $27K I think. I got my CS Performance with 6K miles for $26.5K...and that was about 5 weeks ago. You should be able to get either of those cars now (with the '04s out) for about $25-26K from a private party. Screw that dealership...definately smoking some great hydro though.

BTW...I would be more apt to buy from a private party than a demo car from a dealership, the chances are that the private party drove the car like they owned it...the dealership drove their cars like they...were demos. Screw them!

For the enthusiast w/no options, that's definitely WAY too much. I got a brand new 04 Enthusiast 5AT w/kick plates, splash guards, cargo convenience pkg, floor mats, and trunk mat for $28496 (incl. dest charge) before tax, title and license.

It had 11 miles on the odo when I picked it up.

Did you go to Burien Nissan or something? Those guys were really pushy and wouldn't budge from MSRP on an 03 at the end of June... weirdos. They had 6 on the lot, whereas Fife had 0. Gee I wonder why...

I'm not sure what a fair price would be for those demos... but I'd guess that your $24K would be pretty decent.

hell, thats too high. If 30K for Enthu out the door, then its okay. If not, you are looking at a $2000 mark-up, and they are used too!
Shop around and you should find something sweeter. Good luck!

Got my 03 CS enthusiast 6M on March 1st for $26,600 + TTT. Came with floor mats, trunk liner & splash guards. Dealer was very unwilling to come off of list at first. Then we talked to the IT sales guy and he did the deal.

Another note - I would not buy a demo 350Z for the simple reason that it is a fact that the engine was revved way over the 4K limit during the first 1200 miles. Did anyone tell you not to go over 4K when you test drove one? Got mine with 7 miles on it. I sleep a lot easier knowing I broke the engine in right!
