Default Low tire pressure light, but 41 PSI

After starting out at 38 PSI in each tire, I drove on the Interstate about 30 minutes and the pressures all went up to 41 PSI. At that time, the "low air pressure light" came on. I verified with an electronic gauge that I had 41 PSI in each tire.

Is a warning light at 41 PSI normal? I had to drive the whole trip with the light on.

Thanks,
WayneTN

Hey, Wayne.

I usually have 35 PSI in my tires (cold), since they warm up and add a few pounds as they do. I bet 41 is tripping a high warning, like suggested above. Usually my tires heat up to about 38 PSI and they're fine. You might want to consider dropping a couple pounds of pressure before a highway jaunt. I think the manual recommends 35, but I'm not positive.

35 psi cold is the recommended tire pressure, its normal for the tires to heat up to about 38 or so. Check the label located under the lid of the center console. 41 psi seems a little high.

41 will not trip the light as though it was detecting high pressure. I run 40 to 42 on the track and the light never comes on. I have only seen it come on for low pressure. If it happens again or does not go away, take it to the dealer.

My Low Pressure Tire light came on a few days ago, and my tires' pressure are at 30 cold. I am taking it to the dealers to get a couple of issues fixed, I will just add this one to the list (there is a TSB out on this).

You said you verified with an electronic gauge, so I take it you didn't see anything in the multi-function trip computer. If that's the case, your tire pressure monitor sensor and/or control unit may be busted. I had the same thing happen to me; it was a problem that came with my car because someone had knocked it about a little after it came off the flatbed. I even had to have them replace a rim (which ended up being stupid because somehow it got carved up again, and I know I didn't scrape a curb).

Anyway, once all that is replaced, you'll be in business again.

this is so wierd. I took my Z to have the windows re tinted. When I get in the car I see the yellow low pressure light on. Al tires are about 20 psi. When I took it to tinter it was fine. I'm like, wtf did these guys do to my car. The low pressure alarm is going off. So I take it home and figure I'd put air in it this morning. I thought I put air in all tires. I'm almost positive. However the front left tire says about 19. I'm like wtf. So I go and pick up a regular tire pressure gauge and it reads 19. So I read all tires and they are pretty much accurate. A little high but accurate. I will let air out of tires and put air in tire on the way home tonight. If anybody knows the TSB will they post it here? Thanks

The tire pressure sensors can be reset by the dealer in a few minutes. My pressure light came on when my pressure was normal (35). 40 or 41 will not trip the light. It simply needs to be reset, very simple. Dealer should know exactly what to do.

Thanks very much, guys, for the quick and detailed responses. I need to take it in for the driver seat movement fix anyway, so I'll have them fix this too.

I had mine come on with about 35 pounds in every tire. The next day I noticed 30 pounds in one tire and 35 in the other. So I took the car to get the tires checked and sure enough I had a nail in one tire. I don't know if it was coincidence that the light came when the tire still had plenty of air or if the system can sense a slow air leak from the tire.
