Returning my leased 350z after mods...
I'm not sure I see how returning it without a door screws with "the next guy". Presumably, any potential buyer will actually check this out and, if he doesn't like it, will have the dealership repair it before he buys... I sure as heck would.
I have a lease. I discussed mods with my bank when I leased it through them. The guy told me that a lot of things were fine. He said I could do anything that increased value such as tinting the windows and upgrading the brakes. He only told me not to do stuff like lower it or change the body pieces because that was not always well-received and could decrease the value.
Regardless, I didn't mod it yet. If I CAN afford to buy it when the lease is up, I will. We'll just have to see.
Anyways, I agree that you just don't mod a lease. They will charge you dealer fees to fix anything you did.
