cargo haul
hi folks.
i really really really (did i mention really?) want to get a Z. however, i am very afraid of the cargo space. i've seen pictures and knew the hatch space was going to be tiny, but the first time i saw it in person, i was shocked. coming from an suv, it's quite a difference.
so i'm wondering, what's the largest thing people have been able to transport in their z? snowboards? skis? surfboards? tv's or monitors? did you have to remove the spare to do it, or with the hatch open? any other space-making ideas (besides removing the passenger seat)?
and yes, i am aware that the 350z is really not the car to get if you need to move stuff. no need to tell me again.
thanks

People don't usually buy a Z because of its hauling capacity. If this is a big requirement for you, don't buy one.
How often do you haul big things like you mention? Do you have friends with trucks or SUV's that could give you a hand when you buy a TV or some other big item?

I fit a 2gallon compressor(and the pump of ocurse), 2.5gallon metal pot, LARGE suitcase, large box(was to the pot, but was filled with something else.) also had 2 more boxes each filled with containers holding a gallon each.
I also had a book bag, and bag of laundry, and some food.
granted I was using the passenger seat as well for extra space, but you can fit alot in there if you pack it right.

I saw a guy or girl down the beach Saturday with two surfboards mounted to the roof, and what looked like a hatch-mounted bike rack on the back (no bikes in it though). I think the boards were on a cheap soft-mount type rack on the roof.
The rack that I bought for my gear is a 1993 Dodge Ram150 pickup. It cost me $1700 bucks. Now I can carry all my gear better than I could when I had my GTI-VR6 Volkswagen.

Just two weeks ago I had a long trip and I was able to pack with no problem:
1)A tent (quite light, for two people)
2)two polyuretan sleeping pads (went behind seats)
3)BIG sport bag with closes (30x15x15)
4)Qwin size worm blanket
5)Midsize cooler
6)Big umbrella
7)Helmet for autocross
8)small compressor for tires
All that didn't block my rearview. If you need to cary more on regular basis... don't by a Z, buy a truck.
