question concerning warranties on exhausts..
i recently got into an accident. it wasn't my fault so the other guy's insurance is paying for it.. he destroyed my rear bumper and seems like he hit my exhaust too (just a lil but it's obvious it's the two are not even no more). the other guy's insurance is paying for it and i was wondering if:
1. i can make a deal with the shop owner and get an AEM (aftermarket) exhaust... instead of OEM (stock) .. thinking of borla true dual. has anyone done this type of stuff?
2. doing so would void the warranty and the extended warranty i bought when purchasing my car
3. is it illegal to do this?
4. the price of an OEM (stock) exhaust.
thanks guys for the help.. my Z is ugly right now and im very sad. only 8 days old... =(

1. Yes, just tell the shop owner you want to do it, generally they're pretty cool about it.
2. Who cares, it would only void the warranty of the exhaust. At most that's 70,000 miles. Borla's exhausts have million mile warranties.
3. No
4. Haven't priced one out, but I guarantee it's more than the Borla.

If the exhaust causes or is related to a malfunction elsewhere in the car, Nissan could refuse to pay for the fix. However, I can't see how a cat-back exhaust could possibly hurt anything, as long as its installed properly (with grounding straps, sensors, etc.).

ask for a cash out option from your insurance. Have them give you the money and buy the after market one yourself. You cant get the issurance to do it for you, they only cover OEM repairs. If its private party and the guy says ok to whatever repairs then tax him, have him pay for it but its not likely. The warranty issues shouldnt be a problem unless your exhaust causes the problem. It isnt illegal but some ******* cop may give you a ticket, just bring the paper that says its legal and they will dismiss it.
