Default Should i be concerned?

Hello all! I am new to the forum and after owning 2 STi's, i am interested in buying a 350Z! I drove my friends and it was awesome! I was interested in finding a 2006 model or 2005 Track, but after reading this link https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/232332-revup-oil-consumption-tsb-and-discussion.html for hours, i am wondering if buying a 2003/04 is a better option? Also, can an inspection on the used Z tell me if the engine in the 06 is going to be a problem concerning the oil issue? Thanks for all input!

get an 05 or 07, its worth getting the 07 the HR motor is better. If you can't afford an 07 an 05 is one of the best models to get. Also depends if u want auto or stick for the 06, auto doesn't have the oil consumption problem because its a DE engine

Def get an 07 if it's in your budget. I had a 03 track loved it, untill I got the 07... the HR motor rocks sooo much more potential!!! Plus you can drive it hard and you'll have no oil consumption. My 03 used to eat it just like my old 95 SR-V prelude haha...

Wish I could give you some sort of probability but cannot. Oil consumption is unique. The car will pass a compression test but fail a long term consumption test.

The rest of the car is the same so if the engine wasn't significantly different why would you suggest the 07/08 at all?

OP- test drive a DE and HR and make up your own mind... depending on what mod path you want to go down, the money can become a factor...

Don't be giving advice when you don't know what you're talking about.

I don't regret my 06' one bit. I got the nicer bits like redesigned interior, better looking HIDs on all models, bigger brakes, etc Just get one thats still covered by the powertrain warranty if you find an 06. If it burns oil, Nissan will replace it. They took 2 1/2 days to do it and did an excellent job. My car was burning just a little bit of oil, but it would have been livable honestly even if it wasnt replaced. So now I've got a brand new engine in a car I bought used. Why would I complain about that?

True, while I wouldn't hesistate to take an '06, if you can afford a 07 or 08 its probably worth it.

+1 to everybody else... if you can afford it get the 07 + (HR motor)

Avoid the 06 manuals (rev-up motor)

I have a 2003 and have 115k no tranny problems.. just check for grinding gears and if it was ever replaced ..
