Question You think the OBD is recording revs?

There have been quite a few people here mentioning going past the 4K RPM break-in threshold. The E46 M3 has a fairly sophisticated "Black Box" on board that recorded revs past 8K that landed a few owners in trouble when the M3 engines first started grenading last year before BMW owned up to the manufacturing defect. Is anyone concerned that the Z's OBD is recording the break-in procedure and the fallout that would follow should a catastrophic failure occur that may or may not be the owner's fault?

BTW, it's easy for me to posture on the subject since I haven't taken delivery and have not had to restrain myself just yet. Maybe this week that will change.

No car manufacturer would void a warranty because the owner did not strictly follow the break-in recommendations in the manual!!

Doesn't matter, I had dealer/gen. manager tell me to not worry about it, drive it like I want to, although I have been keeping to 4K, ok a couple times over. Besides bad press to Nissan re: Z's is much more devestating then bad press to BMW re: M3's in long term. If there are problems, Nissan cannot afford to mess with it's image machine.

I guess you've never been to an Audi forum.

That's a very tongue-in-cheek joke as I've been following the AW forum since '99 and saw a lot of crazy **** early on with AOA voiding warranties.

All I'm really wondering is if bouncing off the rev limiter in the first 500 miles is going to come back and bite somebody in the ***. Not that anyone's doing that, but you never know.

I was specifically told by the dealer rep for the 350Z when he turned the car over to me that the break-in instructions are complete BS and to totally ignore them. Not that I look to the dealer for the definitive word on anything, but I think some people are taking this little paragraph on break-in recommendations in the manual just a little bit too seriously. After all, the manual also recommends shifting into 6th gear at 33 MPH!! (Or 50MPH for "quick acceleration")
