Default If you own a 2003 Enthusiast, PLEASE read!

Long story, but my car is in the shop, and needs the main wiring harness replaced. It is at Nissan and they have told me that whoever worked on the car previous had removed the serial number that was on the main wiring harness. (It is a small plastic tab located underneath the dash).
I was told that they could not order a new wiring harness unless they had this serial number since they are all different. I have tried asking them to look up the part via the VIN, but they seem adamant that unless they have the serial number there is no way to order a new one. So i am asking if anyone has a 2003 Enthusiast 6sp. to please contact me. I would be willing to pay for the information of getting the serial number off your wiring harness so i can order a new one.
Thanks for any help.

I hope you get this sorted - but I don't believe the dealership. The VIN should do it.

thank you! Thats pretty much what i said to them, but his "parts guy" says they are all different. Even when i asked "how many different wiring harnesses are there for my car , he couldn't even answer that, so i figured this would be the quickest way to get them back on track... doing the leg work for them...

Do they really think Nissan made a different harness for each vehicle?

The guys at the parts counter are RETARDS!!! ...always

Here's my experience:
While I was doing my brembo swap I called the dealership for a couple of parts (against my better judgment). After talking to the guy for a minute he asked why I needed them and I told him I was installing factory brembos on my touring model Z.

He then proceeds to tell me that the differences between models are so vast that it could never work. He said that people call all the time asking about this and he has to repeatedly go through the list of what would need to be changed and how ridiculously cost prohibitive it would be. When I informed him it was a common practice he said there's no way and he has yet to see it.

So to all the people out there rolling on swapped OEM brembos you have achieved the impossible. If you care to stop by West Hills Nissan in Pittsburgh the guys in the parts department will likely proclaim you their new messiah.

sorry for the OT ...Been holding that one in.

This was pretty much my reaction right away. Even when i asked him how many different ones there were, he did not know. It really seems like this would be an easy fix, but they just seem to not budge on the "there is nothing we can do"

Love the story about the Brembo brakes though, that actually made me smile.. and i really needed one to...

You used to have to go to Nissan to get parts numbers. No more with the internets:

^ I already tried that. ...Unfortunately courtesy parts uses different part #'s for their online catalogs.

Apparently The Nissan dealers use a 10-digit part number

EDIT: While it does look like there are several, if you know the production date of your car you can just order it yourself through courtesy parts. (something they should be able to have done easily)

Yes, thank you for the Courtesy link!
and you are right about the whole part number thing. They said they can't (won't) give out part numbers and use a number for their dealership...
idk, weird.
But i did find out it was the Engine Room Harness that i need, and courtesy did qoute me a price of 610.50.
Why the dealership that has my car could not do this is beyond me...

Thanks for everyones help so far!

Those guys at the stealership dont know S***. When i went to service department to ask if they have seen problems with the driver or passenger side window. They said that me bringing it to there attention was the first time they have heard of it. Effin liars.....They also told me that it wasnt possible to fix the motor. 2 hours later and a can of contact cleaner says he is full of s***. If you dont find out what you need online, try a different stealership

Thanks Chongky! You have a PM.

and i totally agree about about Z owners knowing so much more than the dealership. It's been roadblock after roadblock with them.

I called them up and said that Courtesy Nissan out of Dallas was able to find an Engine Room wiring harness for my car just from having my VIN number. The guy seemed really surprised "wow! Really?" and told him that Courtesy did not ask or require any more information beyond my VIN. Then he said "Well you can order it, and we can install it no problem, i just would not be able to guarentee that that would fix the problem because we arent for sure that that is the correct wiring harness"....
I hate that my car is surounded by idiots, but already i am 6 hrs labor deep with them, and if i take it anywhere else, it will just have to start all over again..
