gooters is right - i think R&T and C&D both talked about this - its just a limited production version intended for racing and will be mad expensive....

it'd be nice, but dont get your hopes up guys....(or your panties in a bunch if you already have a Z

Default Sounds like the M3 CSL

This lightweight 350Z sounds like it's very similar to what BMW is doing with the M3 CSL. Tuned a bit stronger, and expensive, lightweight stuff all around.

Doesn't the M3 CSL use all carbon fiber body panels? Or at least a large amount of CF, one way or another.

Very cool, and very unobtainably expensive for us mere mortals.

Funny, I could've sworn I read the same thing for the 05 GTR. It would be offered as a true race ready car with body only, and also a new motor. I was tired and it was ~4am...could've been dreamin.

I don't think there is much to trim off in terms of weigt. We are very limited by the common chassis. I think BJ and the guys at Shuitemaker said they got their Grand-Am cup car down to ~2950lbs. That is only 200lbs lighter. If it is true, it would be similar to the M3 as mentioned earlier, and would have to be much more expensive. Loosing weight gets expensive, I trimmed off over 50lbs. New TE37 and Toyo T1s dropped ~42lbs, pulleys ~10lbs., no jack or spare.

Has anyone weighed there Z with just a small amount of fuel no jack and spare and no winshield fluid i bet a base right there would weigh in the high 2900.
i have seen the nismo race Z they are selling, in one of my SCC mags, it cost $75,000 weighed about 2400 and had 400 na hp. I could probably find it, but it would take awhile to find the mag.

You think that they fixed the paint chipping problem on this version of the Z?

The Base model probably has the best weight/power ratio. Same power in all models, but the Base weighs the least.

The problem I see with that is that I don't want to drive around with my car in such a state. I like to keep the gas tank at least half full, so I don't have to worry about it. And I like to use the wiper fluid to wash my windows when needed. And I'm a big fan of carrying a jack and spare in case I get a flat on the side of the highway during a road trip. Nothing sucks more than waiting for a tow truck at 1am when you're in the middle of a 500+ mile drive.

The real problem with doing all these weight-reducing procedures is that they have a tendency to take away from the day-to-day driveability of the car. For people like me for whom this is their only car which they must drive everywhere, we can't really strip all these amenities out. (Or at least don't want to.)

I was insinuating that they up the power instead of decrease the weight, reffering to the post before mine. Thanks though.

400HP NA isn't hard to do, but it's hard to do it with 3.5L and keep the car civil.

Thought I'd come up with something if I did a search on here. Just got a magazine in that is printed after the motorshow and has all the hot news in it.

Slated for October 2004 is the lightweight version of the Z. But don't get your hopes up too high. Current stock weight is 1430Kg, new lightweight version is.......1400Kg. Just a drop of 30Kg, no mention of any power increase just that some parts (specifically the hood) would be replaced with carbon fiber parts.
And for this drop of 30Kg the price of the top line model in Japan goes from 3.5million yen to 4million yen. That's 500,000 yen to drop 30Kg in weight. You can do that yourself for less. Hell some of us could diet and get that weight reduction for free

As regards of the Nissan TT version, I keep hearing rumours about it, but they all say pretty much the same thing. Engine displacement would be reduced to 3.2l and power still at about 280hp.

The 280hp thing is just like an advertising agreement. In Japan they agreed not to advertise any figures over 280hp. But like I've said before, independant mags can print actual figures. The Z is a little above 280hp, but cars like the Skyline GTR R34 are more like 340hp.
