Default Highest rates of driver death!

That's right 350z rated the third highest fatality rate per million vehicles (under Chevy Blazer and Acura RSX)

What are your guesses on why this is? I have seen quite a few devastating Z accidents and yet most of the drivers tended to walk away uninjured. The article stated that it could be the vehicles lack of standard ESC, though I feel it may be driver inexperience and age that is causing these high fatality numbers.

I would think that this would raise our insurance rates but my Z has the cheapest insurance Ive ever had on a vehicle.

It is also possible that RSX owners are just moving to 350z's to die in. Just my two cents, but interesting all the same.

welcome to 2 years ago. this is old news and has been discussed to length already. the actual problem is that people do not know how to drive. it is not the cars fault, it is inexperienced (kids) drivers behind the wheel

RSX, 350Z, and Blazer. All deadly when driven by stupid and/or younger drivers.

Asked and answered:
For example, the Nissan (nasdaq: NSANY - news - people ) 350Z has a death rate that's about double that of the average sports car.

But it's not for the reasons you might think. In this case, says Russ Rader, communications director for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an organization that represents the interests of the insurance industry, the 350Z is part of a group of vehicles that tends to be driven by younger, less experienced or riskier drivers, and stands out for having high death rates, through no particular fault of the car.

The 350Z makes you feel very safe by the way it corners and handles itself on the road. Some drivers underestimate the road/situation and are just going too fast, no matter how good your car is, if you're doing something stupid it will catch up to you. The Z is a very safe car, its drivers is what makes it the 3rd deadliest car in the US.

I think of it more as thinning out the gene pool. If you buy a fast car and drive it like a retard, you're only getting what you deserve. The whole, "I've had my license for 4 years and I know how to drive like a pro" thing usually ends with a high speed meeting with a tree.

The Z, being a great value for performance, just means that it is still a quick car, but can be bought by younger people who don't know how to drive.

And here I thought it was due to the brilliant dipstick design.

The dipstick is the culprit of many people having strokes. Requires way too much thinking.

Not just that, most people do not know the limits of their cars handling and capabilities. Without knowing this, they get stupid and feel the need to drive recklessly and push those limits. Without knowing the limits, they don't know where to stop.
