Default Road noise at highway speeds?

I'd like to ask all the owners if they notice the car to be particularly loud inside because of road noise or wind noise when going 60+ mph. I mean I don't expect it to be as quiet as a lincoln towncar or anything, but the car I have now you practically have to shout at passengers if you want them to hear you.

my 2005 roadster is too loud, even at speeds under 50mph.
Maybe the type of tires(Potenza)?

I think it's the road...not your car. Driving on concrete roads with grooves it them is louder than asphalt roads. IMO...

Roads make a big difference in road noise & ride. On Cali valley (no snow/ice damage) roads the Zzzz is quiet with smooooooooth ride. Get up on the hill near Tahoo, though, and the ride is very poor & noisy. If I had to drive the Zzz up on the hill on a regular basis I doubt I would still own it.

I find the z to be somewhere in the middle of the range. I've definitely been in sports cars that were much louder but on the other hand it's not a BMW or Mercedes. I find that my wife and I can talk in normal tones most of the time...depending on what kind of road surface it is. I'm in the Bay Area and most of the highways here are pretty jacked up so it's hit and miss with the noise. But yeah, on smooth pavement it's very quiet at highway speeds.

It's horrible for me. Anyone in SoCal drive the stretch of carpool lane on that connects the 5 to 55? I'm going to lose the Potenza's and switch to PS2's and see if it's any better. Otherwise I'm going to convince my parents to get me a used E46 M3 or something.

Wish I had parents that balled. I pay for my Z and everything I get for it with my blood and sweat. In the end I shed tears... of joy. Look at what I created!

Yeah, the Z gets pretty loud over 60mph, and I think it has a little bit to do with the rear hatch lid as it curves down over the rear side windows. That seems to be where the sound is coming from.

Default road noise

[B]Are you sure isnt your tires?? When I first got my Z - I thought boy - sounds noisy on the espressways. Then finally I got the new front tires per the warranty - noise was reduced 90 percent . I can actually hear the sound of the engine now - and that nice lour purr when slowing down to a stop!
That was why most wanted their tires replaced - originals were VERY noisy!

I'm used to it.... my 2000 Eclipse GT was even louder inside. I drive on the freeway mostly [around 65-80 mph] and on the highway it's pretty quiet.

My beater is a Jeep Wranger (full softtop), and my previous car was a Pontiac Firehawk with an SLP Loudmouth Exhaust. In comparison, the Z is quiet as a church mouse.

Get the Injen Super SES Cat-Back Exhaust System. You wont hear any road noise. Guaranteed.

I went from a 2002 Acura TL-S to a 2004 Z...oh yeah, the first time I drove the car, the roadnoise and the rough stiff precise handling of the car took me away....then 3 days later, I went and bought one....wow...i love it

If your worried about road noise just put some fatmat around the wheel wells and under your carpet inside and this will reduce road noise greatly.

Z is much more quiet then my last two vehicles.
I took a road trip from Cocoa Beach to Douglasville a little North of Atlanta Ga. and the car drove like a dream... Even my girlfriend said, "you can't even tell your going 90mph"

I know, I usually drive 75 to 85 on a trip - and I sometimes look down and I'm at 95, it seems the faster you go the smoother the ride. I always use the trusty Passport 8500 on road trips! (hasn't failed me yet )
