When I went "car shopping" there was no actual shopping. I was going to get a Z. I did test drive a Charger, S2k, BMW 3xx, and an RX8, but mostly just out of curiousity on how they felt behind the wheel. Nothing matched the Z in my mind before or after the test driving.

 

also what you need to know is that my ride is a show car . its about modding to me not posing, with all the extras I added I could afford a used E46 M3 any day, to me its about the Process of modding I fkin enjoy that every time I add something to the car it feels like I bought anew one , but to you Dutchboy350z its hard to understand as you still got a lot of growing up to do kid

I've always dreamed of owning a Z33 since I was in college. After I saved up enough cash after college I was looking into an RX7 FD or Skyline R32. With the amount of money I was going to spend on getting either I decided to finally get a brand new car and stick with my dream car.....350z.

 

in 06 i was shopping around for a new car, looked at srt4, sti, 350z, z was my favorite test drove a few (was 18 at the time) had a 07 red hr on the show room floor reserved for me, just had to go the next day to sign paper work and drive it home, co-signer got cold feet, ended up getting srt4, worst decision i ever made, looking at getting a z next winter

 

I agree with below totally I came to the same conclusion and I will only add I did get Navi,

 

For me, I was looking for convertibles. S2k & Z4 were too small. Mustangs were too big. The 350ZR was juuuuuuuuust right

Would have considered a Mini - but never made it after I test drove the 350.

And back to that Mustang comment - I really was surprised when I started to look at them - they looked and felt GINORMOUS.

 

I was looking at the Mazdaspeed 3's and 6's (still kinda regret not getting a MS6) Subaru Legacy GT, Evo 8/9 (decided I definitely didn't want a used one) and probably some other sedans. the Z was the only coupe I was considering.

 

My thoughts exactly. I was reading this post for some insight to see if I had a similar experience and then it suddenly became a flame fest. Sometimes I am hesitant to post wondering how bad I will be attacked...NOW BACK TO THE OP...

I work for Mercedes so I always had a great lease deal but I thought it was time to treat myself and just get something that I actually wanted, not just because it was a steal of a deal.

I always figured I would get the G35 Coupe since it was the best bang for my buck being quick, but still having the styling of an Infinit. I really was set on that for some time but still decided to test drive some other cars I saw on the different used car lots.

GTO (5.7 and 6.0)- seemed kinda cheap and over priced (if that makes sense)

STi- Loved this car for as long as I can remember but the insurance was outrageous and most dealerships have it WAY overpriced

Audi TT- I really never was looking for it but it was on the lot one day. Not bad, not super impressive, wasnt enough to really sell me on it

Then came the 350Z. It was just sitting there...lookin all innocent. I never thought about it because for some reason I thought it would be cheap looking/feeling and a cop magnet (Well I was right about one part). I test drove it just for the heck of it and call me crazy, but MAN, it felt so much better than the G. I know its lighter and all that, and maybe I was suffering from the Placebo effect but I figured for a few grand less, and a FEW hp more, I couldnt pass it up. 3 Weeks later I was driving away in my new obsession.

 

For me (since I'm buying used) it was Saturn SKY, C5, Chrysler Crossfire, MB SLK, Solstice, Porsche 968, BMW 325Ci.
