Default ? before I buy (long)

I currently drive a modified wrx and have a tentative agreement to purchase a new 03 track for $31k. List is 35.5K (will probably sell wrx on street, as the price has nothing to do with a trade in)

I have some questions and comments that I'm looking for feedback from everyone. Likes/dislikes, best mods for the money ect...

Price, it seems great. Opinions.

Performance. 1500 rpm to 3000 the Z is faster than the wrx in all gears, but above that my wrx is faster except on top gear gear roll the z is faster.
I'm not willing to open the engine up for cams, but will put headers, remove the cats, but want it to run through the stock exhuast(muffler). Will this get me into the 13.5 range in the quarter. That's were my rex currently is at.

Breaking and corning are far superior to the wrx as well as looks. This is my main and really only reason for the switch (looks and corning).

If the Z could run 13.5 in 1/4 out of the gate I would have bought it last night. I guess I'm looking for reasons for and against and what the additional cost are to get the car to the level I would be happy with. FI is not an option.

Thanks,
Dave

I've seen completely stock z's do 13.7, if you get a nice exhaust (borla or injen), jwt popcharger, crawford plenum and headers, you should be running mid 13's
