Default Is 350Z equipped with "Safety glass"?

I got a door ding on my 350Z only a week after i got it... now i found a Paintless Dent Removal guy that can nudge it out from the inside ... but he's worried that if the side windows are safety glass (Glass that when you put a certain amount of pressure on it, it'll shatter), he might shatter it in the process of bumping out the dent and really doesnt want to risk it. Why do a $35 job while risking a $300 side window?! ...

Any help would be appreciated =)

No, it's equipped with "danger glass"

Is this the first time the dent removal guy is doing this, shouldn't he know how to do this by now?

Hahahaha....danger glass. Good one. I can hear the salesman now...this glass is designed to explode on the slightest impact outwards into millions of lethal diamond shaped shards moving at the speed of a sniper bullet.

Alright, thank you for the unhelpful comments, i appreciate it. I just wanted to know if it was, because i didnt know, and would it have been alright if he went on and tried to fix the dent ... obviously too much to ask.

I work as a fireman and I have seen the 350z in a automobile accident. The side windows are safety glass. all cars come with safety glass on the sides and back. The front window is also safety glass (but!) it has a film on both sides to keep it from scattering every were. just like the tint in cars would keep the window some what in one piece. hope this helps.

Default I see...

Alright, cool.. thanks for the heads up ... But does anyone know if its possible to do the Paintless dent removal done even though its safety glass? The guy described that if he put too much pressure on the side window (and if its safety glass), it might risk shattering .. He basically rolls the windows down .. sticks some tool in there.. and nudges the dent out of the side door...

Any one know if the safety glass will be fine, or will definitely break?

It's hard to answer this question. If you put too much pressure on *any* kind of glass, it will crack or break. It really comes down to the guy doing the work. If he feels he can do it, have him guarantee the work so he'll fix the window if he breaks it. If he doesn't feel comfortable, go to someone else.

As an alternative, you could always take apart the door and remove the window. It might be as simple as removing the door panel which could free up enough room for the guy to do it safely. Removing door panels is typically pretty easy. Removing the window would be a bit more work, but if this dent is in a precarious position, the window might *have* to be removed no matter who you go to.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Also, the guys up above were just joking around with the "danger glass" thing. No need to get frustrated about it. Barrybell *did* answer your question and he was the very first person to respond. I'd say that was pretty helpful.

Doesn't sound like this guy is a professional. This car could be a very expensive guinea pig.

I thought the front windows had a plastic film inside the glass to keep it from breaking into small pieces and scattering. I don't believe there's a film on both sides of the glass, is there?

The film is between the two layers of glass for the windshield.

The dent removal guy is being lazy it sounds like, I had it done on a car they drilled a very small hole and tapped it out from there. And this dent was right behind the door so they went in right above the door latch. Unless you know what you are looking for you won't notice it.

Shattering involves breaking into shards that are dangerous, right? "Safety glass" doesn't shatter then, but breaks into granules that do not have sharp edges, also the plastic film between layers helps to keep the glass in one big, kinda flexible piece. I think.

And the "danger glass" thing was the funniest thing I've seen on the boards...well...maybe ever.

Default I stopped by the Nissan dealer...

To do a maintence oil filter change ... and i asked a few people there about the "safety glass" and weather it would be safe or not to perform the Paintless dent removal thing .... they assured me 100% that the side windows were NOT safety glass / tempered glass / whatever .... I mentioned about someone saying on the forums that it was required by law to have safety glass on all cars ... he said it was only the front windshield ... but the sides werent ...

Are these guys just BS'ing me and not taking me seriously, or maybe theres some truth behind what they said?

front wind sheild and side windows are different things. The front when crack doesn't break into pieces. The side windows on the other hand breaks into small non-jagged edges. So maybe they meant when side windows breaks, it doesn't break like the front.
