anesthesiologists and many other specialists *start out* at around a half million a year depending on where you live.

i don't know if you're saying that to console yourself or what. but if seeing thes dr salaries is depressing anyone (like me). just look on the bright side, you're driving a car that millionaires drive .

btw i think the biggest consolation should be that most drs don't start making ANY money until they're into their early or mid thirties. and they work a lot of hours.

This was a few years ago, maybe things have picked up.

Incidentally, he's now making about $800K at my firm (but he's only 35 or thereabouts).

The answer is a definite 'maybe'. It depends on a lot of factors, like time to partnership track, type of position (permanent vs. locum tenens, etc.), as well as demand.

Speaking of surgeons, salaries for general medicine docs and surgeons have decreased substantially over the last 5-6 years. Starting salaries for a GM can go for as low as $90k, and a surgeon just starting out in a metro area like LA will only make about $110k - $130k. Things HAVE changed a lot, in the face of rising costs and managed healthcare.

From Salary.com Anesthesiologists / Specialist only make $ 217,000 median income (Anaheim, CA)- $ 311,00 if one is in the 75th percentile.

I congratulate doctors and their significant salaries, because I know I would never want to be one. It takes a different person to go through what it takes to be a doctor, so they can have their money

Now, if only doctors and all their money could learn to be more considerate to their patients...

I guess I'm getting offers in the 99th percentile, then.

Either way, $217k or $350k...I'll take it.

You usually get what you deserve. Doctors work hard to become doctors and usually work hard when they are doctors, so they deserve it. It is not something everyone can do. I consider myself to be an inteligent person (other than my lack of spelling) and I could never be a doctor.

That said, my Z is right at 1/3 of my yearly salary, so things are well. Also, I am single with NO debt other than the car payment, and only 27 years old. I have made the same amount of money for 3 years now, so that helps too. I am by no means a rich person, I have very little money saved, but to be 27 I feel like I am doing pretty good.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, I used to watch Doogie Howser and he worked all the time and would complain about how doctors don't make much money. And clearly an 80s TV sitcom is the definative source to learn about job salaries.

yeah i wouldn't trust salary.com. i've looked at it and it's hard to tell how reliable the data is.

btw, i think you have to consider that there is incentive for the employers who provide the data for salary.com to underreport the salary numbers. they have everything to gain in the job market by doing so.

But once they get there, they make up those ten years of lost wages pretty damn quick.

The way I see it, I don't see many jobs that put me on the path to earning ~$500k by my late thirties. And that's still pretty damn young.

IT business has been very good to me. Never had to look for a job, I've always been recruited from previous employers. It gets better every time.

I learned ' don't complain about what you didn't get if you didn't ask for it'. So now I always ask for what I feel I deserve. If they balk, no big deal, I still have a job.

I have been blessed, there is no other feasible answer. I always remember where I started from and try to help others advance their career. To me its not about where you are at but rather how you take the trip.

Oh, salary> 5x 350Z Too ostentatious you think?
