If I had an opportunity to buy an 07 or 08 Z for the HR engine, I may, but I don't think I am really missing out that much other than the slightly better mid-range.
I agree with you about the stupid hood hump, the lines of the Z look so much better with the original hood.

I couldn't be any happier with my 06 Z, I love the interior refresh for 06 which is why I would definitely recommend it over an 05 and prior. Those things came with freakin tape decks.

However I have to disagree with your take on the revup. It is well known that the revup is the engine that caused the oil consumption issues, and just because you luckily have a good one doesn't mean that everyone else is likely to. The revup just seems like a gamble to me compared to the original DE, which I couldn't be any happier with myself. However in an 06 this means you are limited to an automatic transmission, which I love but a lot of people hate in sporty cars like this.

Gotta comment that the DE has great aftermarket potential. Couldn't be any happier with my engine after it got supercharged. It has great low end toque and mid range power, with an amazing top end. It may not rev as high as the others but the thing is that when boosted, it never needs to.

um ..Im correct..Datsun240z, Datsun260z, Datsun280z&zx, Nissan300zx all had humps in the hood.. like stated above.. '03-'06 lacked da hump..and now the '09 370z lacks da hood..quiet frankly it looks stupid. Nissan will add the hump to the 370z once an after market company makes a humped hood..lol..I bet it will look
sick..very aggressive..

Go with a 2007+ as you will likely still have a factory warranty. I had the slave cylinder go out on my 07 at 16k miles this past week, it cost me nothing to have the tranny removed and the faulty parts replaced.

2007 w/ factory warranty ftw!

I disagree. My friend had an 06 stock and I have a 07 stock and we raced a couple of times. Each time my car slowly pulled away. At one point he even jumped the start on purpose to see if that would help. I ended up catching and passing him. Don't say its the driver. These were 70-100ish all 3rd gear, no shifting just to see what would happen and the 07 had no problem winning every time.

Sorry Toast, misread your OP regarding the hump in the hood. For some reason I interpreted what you'd typed as only 03-06 350s having the hump.

Whoops!

06 six speed and my only issue so far was transmission. 5th gear would grind. Replaced by the dealer.

Wow, that's a pretty stupid way of looking at it. The 240's had an inline 6, plus unlike with the 350, the hood hump actually added to the lines of the car. With the 350 it looks WAY better in it's original design IMO. The hood just looks stupid and out of place on that car. On the 370 it would make it look even worse then it already does, I sure hope they don't add it.

results may vary, i have yet to loose to a HR with my current setup.I raced one with a exhuast and knn filters and still pulled on it. I have 2 bolt ons with my revup V2, however my friends tends to think my V2 is more powerfull then my previous revup because we raced then aswell and results where a slow crawl away, that engine dyno'd at 251rwhp.

I have to dyno this V2 , because thus far...its a beast comapred to what my previous reg revup was.

I havent been sold on the HR models simply because the 370z engine is alot better and because the nismo 370 is on the horizion. If i where going to uprage for me it would be to a nismo 370z. A HR to me going from HPDE events really still looks like a minor increasement.

Of course drag times are different, but i have no use for drag racing, i rather go 120 MPH on a turn heal toe shifting changing camper and caster doing what the Z was deisgned to do.

On a road course, the HR and revups DEs all are very simnilar performance wise...its the 370 that shows a obvious improvment.

save up for a nismo 370 Z , it will embarass all before it. If not buy a used 03 etc and turbo her and build the block and it would matter what a HR is or a 370stock because there are more options for that version od DE then anything HR etc lol
