Question How do I sell a car?

OK, the question is not as basic as you might think. A few of you already know that I will be moving to Puerto Rico at the end of the year, and I have to sell my Z.

I had someone look at it this evening, and they are very interested in buying it. All we have to do is figure out an amicable way of transferring the car.

The problem is that I don't have the $27,000 to payoff the car to get the title before I sell it. So, if I get a check from the buyer, what is the best way to make sure the check clears, I get the title, and transfer it over to him.

One option was for him to give me the money. Once it clears, I can take the car to his place and I can keep the tags. This way I can wait for the title to come, and he has possession in the mean time. I can understand that he doesn't want to pay for it, and me keep possession. Is there anything that can go wrong with this?

Please help.

Thats how its done, more or less. Just make sure he knows exactly how long it will take for the title to be released, and that you are able to keep him up to date as to its status.

Also might want to check with your states DMV in case you are forgetting something.

Instead of having him write a check, you can have his bank electronically wire the money from his bank account. This usually takes less time to clear than writing a check.

You are only looking at around 1 week between paying off the vehicle and receiving the title.

When you get here (PR) email me (eo0430@hotmail.com)... I know where you can buy a Z on a good price.

P.S. Did you know that all the models are 10K more than in the States! Damn Taxes!!!

I know, that's why I won't be able to get a Z in PR. But if you can get me a good price on an Altima I'd be very interested.

It's been tough trying to get car estimates on the web. I'll be heading down at the end of October and I'll be checking out dealerships then.

You might also want to look into his bank (whoever is financing the car, if brick and mortar) can take care of the title transfer for the both of you. That is how I sold my Integra. Just walked into the bank with the guy, and they took care of the rest. Cut me a check on the spot.

Sure just email me when you get here... My friend owns a Nissan dealer.

Once again, thanks for all help.

I sold it today for $24,500! It was a Base 350Z with about 6,900 miles. We went to the bank and they handled everything. Now all we have to do is wait for the title to that they can drive their "new" car.
