Default Mpg?

Well, I got my new Z on the 24th. When I got it it said I was getting 6-10 mpg, I forget. It has slowly been working its way up.

I now have 600 miles, have never redlined it, and I am getting 17.3 mpg as of today.

But now....It has stoped going up, and even drops every once in awhile...

I am somewhat disapointed with the mpg I am getting. WHat are you guys/girls getting? What is the best way to get the advertised 20/26?

I am driving the car really easy....

I got 25.2mpg on a road trip to Annapolis,MD last week. This was flying at about 85mph too. Went 115mph once on 312. It will improve when the car has more miles

23.4 mpg, freeway and city driving. Or so the gauge says. Not sure if I believe it.

the best way to get the advertised 20/26 is to never shift past 3k-4k and avoid traffic or coming to a stop. since both of these are near impossible for me i tend to get around 16-17mpg city, but around 22-24mpg highway.

I checked the MPG (Canadian) on my wifes Z last Friday. No wind, air temp.approx. 12C, road speed 70mph, 6th gear on cruise control. Was getting 39.25 mpg (Canadian). No kidding.Pretty damn good IMO !!!

BTW. DON'T USE SHELL GAS !!! I was using it in my Chev 3/4 ton and had to replace the whole fuel pump system ($1000) due to an additive that Shell had in their gas. Shell covered the cost, but I won't buy their fuel any more. Just my 2 cents.

I'm at 500 miles. The readings on trip comp are 18.5mpg and 22 mpg av. The Z is my daily driver...only 20% highway.

39.25mpg is impossible. You're in Canada...the unit is km/g? you have to convert km to mile.

1km = 1.6093 * mile which makes it even harder to believe.

39.25mpg is impossible
You might see it for a time if you reset the meter while in motion and are at speed. I see 33-34 following a fill-up and back on the secondary roads to home. But .6*39.25 is 23.55 mpg (1st post was backwards) which is more like it.

I get about 25 - 26 actual, actual miles/gallons on fill-up. I do about 60% freeway driving. I'm pretty happy with the mileage but the tire wear sucks with the 040s.

I'm around a 20.9mpg right now, driving 50/50 normal/aggressive, with 4k miles on it and plenty of full throttle 6500 RPM shots of fun

When I first got it 2 months ago, driving 90/10 normal/aggressive I was doing ~23/24 mpg.

I use Mobil1 93 octane gas.

Never heard of this shell gas thing before? Any other details? How long has this been going on? Hard to believe Shell would be covering a fuel pump repair...isnt that setting a precedent to do likewise for other customers? How could they possibly be using an additive that would cause these type liability issues?

Small world...I'm working under a similar scenario, and my MPG is almost exactly the same...20.8 MPG. 6200 miles since 5/29/2003. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to get it over that 20.8 figure...probably due to the 20 minutes of Main Street construction traffic I have to sit in every morning.

Mine has 8500 miles. I get around 20mpg during normal city driving(not hot-rodding it everywhere), and on my frequent trips between Tucson and Phoenix I get almost 28mpg(that's keeping it around 80mph).

Like the other people said, it will get better with time.

BTW, I use Chevron 91 Octane 'cause that's the highest readily available in Arizona.

Good luck on your new purchase!

I recently took a trip to San Antonio from Dallas. The trip from A to B takes 4.5 hours almost exactly. I reset the meter after filling up at the station about a half mile from my house. I never reset it again all weekend. I drove to SA, drove around all weekend in SA, then drove back to Dallas. Avg mpg was 26.5. Of course about 9 out of 11 hours of total drive time was highway but my avg MPH was 54. So at 54 MPH with a little city driving mixed in I got 26.5 mpg. I saw as high as 27.7 on the highway but it never went below 24.5 in town. I did get into the throttle a little here and there because I had exhaust installed. Also, I drive as fast as I safely can when on a long road trip without wrecking, being a maniac or getting a ticket. Usually around 85 avg on the highway so there was some pretty slow city driving mixed in there. And a lot of damn traffic on 35.
