I think forced induction pressure is also measured in PSI?

As VQracer indicated, there are many engine parameters that are measured in psi, but the most common one is tire pressure. Just don't ask about psia or psig.

u use psi as a measurement for the engine right? so what means to a engine that has certain psi, is higher the better or lower the better? and is a higher psi in the engine means that the explosion is bigger that the pressure is larger?

I'm pretty much a car engine illiterate but just from what I have read on the boards, he may be referring to the psi of "boost" you can put into an engine with forced induction. Forced induction, John0213 is a method of forcing air into the combustion chamber of the engine. This generally refers to either a turbocharger or a supercharger. I actually do know the difference but I'll leave the explaination to the experts. With this, as you stated, you get a "bigger explosion" and thus more power if you can add air to the fuel. Please feel free to make me look like a fool all you mechanical wizards out there!

yes you can. psi is a general term usually given to tires and the amount of force induction (turbo, supercharger) of an engine.

As Dr. Bonz illustrated with forced induction, psi is the amount of air the is "forced" into the engine.

yes. Psi stands for pounds/square inch. So with a higher psi the pressure in the combustion chamber will be proporationally higher. It's not really a bigger explosion just a more powerful one.

ebs350z, if your out there, maybe you can elaborate better for us.

PSI is actually not just a car term. It is a scientific term used to describe pressure. It just so happens that there are a lot of different pressures to measure in automobiles

Not at all! You are right on target. Power is basically derived from the amount of fuel burned. The amount of fuel burned is directly proportional to the amount of oxygen available. So when you force air in under pressure, you increase the amount of oxygen available, allowing you to increase the amount of fuel, resulting in more power. When measuring boost, PSI refers to the number of pounds per square inch above atomspheric pressure you are developing.
