Default Wobbly Jackstands

sorry guys if this is in the wrong section but i purchased a pair of 4-ton jackstand from Sears. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...Lift+Equipment

The jack is SLIGHTLY wobbly when on a leveled surface. to give an idea, the gap between the uneven leg and the floor is so small, i couldnt fit a penny in that gap but there is still a gap so it SLIGHTLY wobbles if i force it. so is that fine? sorry for the question, ive always used ramps for my car work but had a bad accident and this is my first time using jackstands(with a jack). thanks

Take em back and raise some hell with them, shoddy American made products. I wouldn't trust my life to wobbly jackstands.

Take them back. Shouldn't be a wobble. Mine doesn't.

Those were the first set of stands I purchased for my Ford F350 Super crew. I needed them at the time, because the truck weighed 5000lbs. I tried the once or twice on the Z, and found they were horrible for the job. They are too tall and have that gap you speak of. Sears makes a smaller jack stand that is all black. They have a virtually flat top. AC Delco also makes similar ones that are small and flat on the top. I have a set of both...

Less then a penny? I wouldnt worry about it.

The stand will flex when you load it up so that all four legs contact your floor. Your garage floor will be flat but not perfect itself either. So even if you do get a perfectly flat pair of stands they may still wobble on your floor.

You could try a couple things to help the wobbes since it is so small. Cut a pieace of cardboard big enough for the entire jackstand to sit on (an old pizza box or grocery box works great), set this on the ground before putting your jack stand down. You can also do the same on the top of your jack stand to create a better pad for your car to sit on.

You had a bad accident using ramps?

Just for the piece of mind while laying under the car, get different ones.

The original ones like yours, absolutely not! The gap is too large. Because of this, the 2 points on the top part of the stand end up bending or poking indentions into the car's frame. The small, more flat ones, work a heck of alot better...
