Default Redline Beep

I used to own an rx-8, and one of my favorite parts about it was the beep it would make when you would redline it. My question is, is there anyway to install such a device that would allow that to work once I hit 7500 RPMs

here is an example of what I'm talking about on the rx-8. Just listen for the beep, don't comment on the slow acceleration or any of that other jazz.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5cFWDJlRoAo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5cFWDJlRoAo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

it's actually not annoying, and was very helpful to me when I tracked my rx-8. I could shift without taking my eyes off the road

Yes, actually, there is a way to do this, with an aftermarket EMS. I believe the Defi Control Unit II can do this. I have it beep on Exhaust temp and overboost, but I believe it can read/notify for many different gauges. Or, you could just use the shift light if your model has it. Or you could get a racing tach with those types of features.

thanks I'll look into those! My car does have the rev limiter light as stated, but once again it takes focus off the track/road to look down at my RPMs and the light.

My point is that you can set the light to go at different RPM levels. You don't need to look at your RPM's then. You'll know when to shift with some practice.

BTW, here is some more information and pricing for you:
http://www.intensepower.com/decounii.html
http://www.intensepower.com/defilinkmeter.html (shows which gauges can be read through the control unit. I see Tach on there!
"ull-lineup: boost(for turbocharged and supercharged engines), intake manifold pressure(for natural aspirated engine), oil pressure, water temperature, oil temperature, fuel pressure, exhaust gas temperature and tachometer. White and black gauge dials are available.

Double Warning function by a meter's LED lamp and a beep"

OR...

You could project the speed, tach, etc onto the windshield, like the Vettes.

I have the Defi Control Unit II. If you want more information on how it works, or want to hear/see it in action, let me know.

The RX-8 squirrel doesn't make a lot of noise so it's possible that hear a redline beep. You'd need a Klaxon to hear over the roar of the mighty VQ.

Test drove a RX back in the day and i didn't care for the feature for day-day driving seemed like it would be nice for the track but you almost have to red-line the rotary to get it to move imo.

If you know your car well enough, you can shift fine just by listening to the engine.

With the Z, you don't have to bring it to redline for power.

couldnt you just tap the shift light wire, and run it to a speaker, so when the light receives power, it would power the speaker, and you could have it play any sound, a beep, some young dro, or some phil collins.

You'd have to just amplify the signal and have it run to a speaker using a single flat hz range. I'd want a tweeter with a Chris Tucker "Daaaaaaamn!"

Why do you need a beep, light or even a tach to know when to shift?

Check this out. This might be better than a beep if your going to be tracking your car with the windows down. Might be too noisy for the beep. I wanna get this mod done but I know it will be a PITA to take the instrument cluster apart and solder onto the circuit board. But it is on the future mod list.

Sometimes it's easy to hear where redline is. But sometimes when you have to shift mid corner on a long sweeper and all 4 tires are squeeling, with the windows open, its tough to hear redline. Since the stock light is useless because it's not bright enough during day use, you may as well use the system and put brighter lights in. If you think about it, why do all race cars have shift lights? These drivers should be able to hear redline no? I'm not comparing the 350 to a race car but I'm just saying if the ability to have a shift light is there you may as well use it.
