Default shifter m3 v. z

compared to the e46 m3, the 350z shifts are shorter and notchier. I really love the feel of this and prefer it over the M3s. i've never driven a 911.

I've had a Performance model for about 1 year now; 21K miles so far. I think there are some problems with the transmission design (aside from the quality/build problems that have lead to all-out transmission failures on many 350Zs) 2nd gear, in general, is way too 'notchy.' I feel like I hurt my car every other time I shift into 2nd... not a good feeling. Also, the neutral position return spring is a bit stiff, so I find it takes excessive effort to go into 5th/6th gates. I like the short throws, and the feel of the shifter, but I don't like the way the transission feels and sounds when I shift... it just doesn't sound healthy if you ask me. I think it's the weakest point of the car. Only time will tell if the synchros give out early.
