Default Clutch FYI

I got my Z last November and from first drive I noticed the clutch barely came off the floor before it engaged. I've heard lots of you say the same thing in past forums. I tracked the car in August and plan to do it again this month. It only has 3500 miles but the last couple of times I've taken it out I hear this "squeak" or "crunch" when I push in on the clutch. So I said to myself today, "I need to lube this thing". Well, I've always been pretty much of a "motor head" and I love working on cars but I've got to tell you I was surprised to find what I thought was a "squeak" were the bolts that hold the clutch to the firewall had backed themselves out to the point you could tighten them back by hand! I couldn't believe how this could have happened coming from what I considered a very worthy automobile company. Then again I guess that's just the way things are done everywhere now, in a hurry! Don't get me wrong I still love this car but if your clutch feels a little funny, check under the dash! By the way it's standard not metric. Somthing else I couldn't believe!

sweet! I'm gonna have to check this out cuz my clutch pedal is exceptionally noisy and not very smooth. any idea what the lube method is and what type of lube Nissan techs would use if they were to tackle the clutch assembly?

Thank you.

I took in my 03 for an extremely loud screeching noise when I pushed it the clutch. You could hear it outside the car. It was louder if you pushed it in slowly. Nissan gave me a new tranny and clutch under warranty. I thought it was just an adjustment, ie screws.

did applying grease to the fulcrum eliminate the popping or springy, stretchy noise?
