Warranty Opinions Wanted
Hey Guys.
I am looking for some insight/advice on a warrenty question. I am picking up a new Nismo 370 (Pearl White) on the 21st (in about a week and a half). The dealer offer me three hokey extended warranty options.
1) For 130 bucks, we will fill your tires with nitrogen and you will be like a real race car driver (paraphrasing, of course)
2) We will wax your car with teflon something or other and you wil never have to wax it again. Green bird farts will not even stick to it. If it chips, we will paint it. (Billy Mayes could have pitch this miracle stuff - rest his soul)
3) For $299, if anything happens to the interior - it will be replaced. Including rips/tears, punctures, and burns. This applies to the dashboard, center console, and seats/carpets.
I told them not a chance on #1 and #2. But if it's actually true, I am considering #3. My dog is always riding shotgun (A real dog, not just an ugly girlfriend) and there is definately potential for some carnage. I have an '03 z with leather and there are a few scratches on the seat from my furry friend.
Thats what I need some opinions on. I asked specifically "Are you saying they will replace these seats with Nismo seats if something happens ? I have a dog that rides around with me and that just may interest me".
She didn't bat an eye and replied "Yes. They will replace it with whatever is in there". I find this hard to believe. Especially after she told me that I will get an extra year of life out of the "Wheels" by filling them with nitrogen. I asked if she meant tires. She did.
I believe it's through a third party. The name/website on the pamphlet they gave me is:
Name: ECP Inc
Site: ecpinc.com
The pamphlet nor thier site mention the word replace anywhere which is a little suspect. And if you poke around the site, there is a whole section about seminars they offer, to dealers I assume, about how to sell and step-sell products. That was turn off number 2.
So, has anyone ever had this plan and if so, what is your opinion ?
While I am babblng, here is a story for you:
So I decide to start looking for a new Z. My '03 has has 114,000 miles on it now. I figured I would keep the '03 for a commuter and keep the new one for nice days. Well, to make a long story short, I find the only nismo in the northeast. It's the same color as my '03 and I really want Pearl White. They find a pearl white one in route and trade another dealer the gun metal for the white one in route. All goes well and I am a happy camper. Less then a week later, I spun the main bearing in my '03. Engine is toast. Woo Hoo !! The dealer wants $9,000 to put in a junk yard motor with 70,000 miles on it. So, my brother and I decide to do the motor swap ourselves in his garage. I tracked down a great company online who got me a motor from an '03 Z with 27,000 miles on it from a salvage yard. They sent a car fax ahead of time to prove the mileage before I bought it. Everything seemed legit and the guy seemed very straight foward and honest. I ended up paying $2850 including shipping for the motor and it was delivered a few days later. No complaints. Turns out it was from an automatic and there was a little extra work involved but last night we finally turned the key for the first time and I'll be damned if she didn't fire up on the first try and purr like a kitten. I took some pictures during the swap. If you have any interest, let me know and I will post them.
Thanks for any input on the warranty !! And of course I will take some pictures of the Nismo when I get it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. #1 and #2 are total BS. #3 might be good but you better read the fine print. I seriously doubt that taking a dog for a ride won't be considered "abuse" and be excluded.
Your tires won't last a year longer because of nitrogen. I've never seen any published data on how long nitrogen extends the life. It does, but it's not going to be much. You'll wear them out long before the extended year is reached (if that makes sense).

I couldnt help it....
ahhhh i dread at the thought of allowing the dog in any car, hair and stink. lol
you'll always have to polish/wax it no matter what. It breaks down even under protection of sealed environment, more so obviously with sun and regular air exposure.
Nitorgen supposedly does not expand or contract as much with the flux of temperatures. So yeah for sure you can drop about a second and half at the track with that haha.
Option 3 sounds good for you though, read stipulations first to ensure it is allowed to be caused from dog or user etc.
