Default Second time I got hit...

Hey what's up guys? Well, this is the second time I got hit...still handling that first situation since I only had liability. It wasn't my fault but still a hassle nonetheless since cop put a no fault on both ends even though I got hit. Hard to convince lawyers to handle my case. Anyways, here's what happened the second time.

On the way to work. I drive out of my complex. I get to a stop sign and stop to look at traffic on both ends. This car passes in front of me from the left and then stops, starting to back up slowly.

Now, I'm asking myself what the heck is he doing. He starts trying to back up into where I am. I'm guessing he wanted to pop a u turn. I honk at him like 3-4 times. He's obviously not paying attention. As I try to grab my shifter to reverse, he hits accelerator while in reverse and whacks into my fender.

I'm SUPER pissed at this point since I didnt even get a chance to change to full coverage insurance yet. The guy looked like he was going to run. I get out and yell at him to get his attention so he doesn't think he just hit the curb or tree. I'm assuming this is how dumb he may have been. He stops and gets pretty scared. I asked him why he didn't stop when I honked. He told me he didnt hear me. He was old like 60 or so. I believed it so I calmed down.

We exchanged info. Although, I didnt have time to wait for cops this time around like last time. I had to get to work. So I called it in to the insurance hoping there is some resolution to this. They told me even though I have liability, they will try their best to get the other insurance to pay since its not my fault. I'm filling out a civilian police report just to cover my tracks by the state since town police wont get involved unless they were on the scene.

Same day, I see someone pass a red light in front of me not paying attention. I told myself that I'm not rolling without full coverage anymore. People just dont pay attention on the road. Not worth it just to save a couple hundred bucks. The funny thing is I never had issues the first couple of years I had the car until recently.

Anyone have any similar experiences that want to share any advice? I'm waiting to talk to the insurance of the other driver. We'll see how it goes and keep you guys updated.

Damn, seems like you are not having the best of luck with your Z lately.
I think this would have never happened if the Z was equipped with a louder horn.
I've been in a few situations where someone would merge into my lane without looking and me honking has no affect due to the extremely weak horn on this car.

Anyway, I hope everything works out for you, good luck.

I'd be careful, this guy may be commiting insurance fraud. By backing into you, it may look more like you rear ended him putting you at fault and on your insurance. This seems very odd and I'd be very, very suspicious no matter what the old guy said to you. Any witnesses? Good luck!

Insurance companies are the root of all evil imo...but recently Progressive has actually helped me out. During a rainy day a semi truck blew past me on a narrow two lane road and threw rocks all over my windshield (so pissed) and obviously he didn't stop. I had about 4 chips/small cracks repaired by safelite for about $100 the very next day so the cracks wouldn't get any worse after sitting out in the hot sun..

Long story short, didn't file a police report (officer told me it was pointless) and I definitely didn't claim it because of the dam deductible. I contacted Progressive and they are actually going to cover most of the $100 for the repair I paid for. I think they said they cover up to $75 for windshield repairs (better than nothing..) So I faxed over my safelite bill and they are going to reimburse me. Usually it's like pulling teeth trying to get your insurance company to help you out (even though you fork over ridiculous amounts of money to them, and most likely never see the benefits)....

Yeah, I'm sending in my report today when I get home.

By the way, can't imagine the honk is that low, it scared me a couple times actually when I was disconnecting and connecting battery...it would go off...really loud...but the guy was probably losing his hearing.

Yeah, it can be the case of fraud but I don't think he had those intentions...he was pretty scared of the situation...not very confident at all...but I'll take the necessary steps that I can from here...

thanks for the responses so far guys.

I thought if the blue book value of your car is over a certain amount of money you have to have full coverage.

Insurance companies are a broken system.....we pay them thousands of dollars over the years and then they say they won't cover a $600 claim!

I've decided paying comprehensive insurance is worth it.....500 deductable. Especially with a car like this.

People are stupid these days man. I saw some dipsh*t run a red light yesterday in a Camry. At first, he was stopped and waiting for the light to turn. Then, all of a sudden we see his car inching forwards - you know how when people anticipate the light change, like that. Except the light didn't change, and he was too far past the light so he decides to run the light.

Now, at this intersection, we can't see what's coming to the left or right because of trees, buildings, etc. But all of a sudden you hear tires screeeeeeching, we see a PT Cruiser skidding with clouds of tire smoke surrounding it, and this moron instead of flooring his Camry, is still moving like a snail. The PT Cruiser whacks his rear-quarter panel going about 15MPH.

Best part was the douche kid in the car rolling down his window and asking the driver in front of me "Hey! Did you see that? Can you be a witness please?" And the driver says to him "No way! Are you ****ing kidding? You ran a red!"

Be careful out there, guys!

Yeah but if it's over that, which in some cases depending on the insurance company you have, you would probably need it. If you end up with the lowest policy, they will not cover you, and you will have to deal with the other insurance or get a lawyer to handle it for you which is a pain.

I think certain people should not be driving on the road period. Why should the good drivers suffer because of idiot people that can't drive. By the way, I wouldn't rely on the horn too much. Both me and my girlfriend got whacked and the horn did nothing. You're probably better off getting out of the way if you can. As far as pictures, I'm going to have to get around to that when I have time. Still no update yet on the situation but I'll keep you guys posted.
