new Z buyer questions
Hey guys, I am pretty new to this forum as you can see from the number of posts but I have probably read about 2000 of them already. I am set on buying a Z which I will order and hopefully have by Christmas. I am wanting a Track model. with all options but Nav and Airbags, is there something wrong with the splash guards? It seems as though a lot of people have taken them off or do not like them, is there a reason for that? I will be buying it in Houston, anyone know of any particular places in Houston that might give me a better deal than others? I think I will order it online and pick it up from the dealer since you get a no hastle no haggle deal and usually a better price but I will have to see how that pans out. Can anyone give me any pointers. Thank you so much. This forum has already been more helpful than I could have imagined.
My Z is just about here, and it is a track model as you described except it does have nav, and I live in Houston.
Mossy Nissan will do a great job for you, ask for Kirk.
He will go to work and find your car for you quickly.
Tell him Chris told you about him.
God Luck, the wait is terrible.

How long did it take for your order to come in? I am going to be back in Houston on break during Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks, I go to Virginia Tech but am from Houston so I am gonna use that long drive as the breakin period which should be great. I also dont want to give up my TX plates. What did your total price come out to? Thank you for your help so far.
MSRP came out to 37740.
I managed to get 500 off the MSRP.
I ordered about 65 days ago. The one I ordered has yet to be shipped. I got tired of waiting and started looking to every dealer possible. They managed to find one just like I ordered that was coming into port, in about a week. My dealer traded another dealer for the vehicle. If I would have waited for the car I orginally ordered to come in I would be waiting until November sometime as of yet I have not heard an exact date.
However my car should be hear in about two weeks.

Unless your hellbent on new there are used Track Zs with Nav selling for under 29K. Also I know that the MSRP on my car was 29K+ and I got it for $26,900. I understand no hassle but with no hassle means no price break. If I were you I would call states with snow and work my way up from invoice price; not down from MSRP. Good luck.
I've got the splash guards on mine. I didn't want them, but they were already on the car (same with the airbags). I've gotten used to them; they are painted to match the car, so they don't look too bad. They may still come off because I've been noticing that the rears trap a lot of dirt and mud.
I strongly suggest you go to a dealer to make the purchase. If you haven't already, test drive one too. I think the online stuff is a bunch of crap...you can always negotiate a better price in person, especially if it's already sitting on the lot. The key to handling car salesmen is to stand your ground. Go in there knowing EXACTLY what you want and leave if you don't get it. Nine times out of ten, the salemen will chase you out the door if you begin to walk out. Remember, you are their GOD since you will be funding their existence and don't let them badger you into something you don't feel good about. A good salesmen will listen when you talk.
The first dealer I went to was an a$$hole. (They also sell Porsches, so it's little wonder). They didn't have any Track models, so they wanted to take my deposit and look for one. When I told them I wasn't too keen on that, they tried to discourage me from ordering one by saying it would take 9 months to get it. After offering to write them a check for a new one anyway, I asked if they could throw in the navigation system for free: his was response was "We don't deal on these cars because they are in such high demand." Kelly Blue Book tells me that they are making $4000 off of invoice on this car...so I walked out right there. He didn't chase me, but he did call a week later after I bought one at another (much better) dealer. I really enjoyed telling him why I didn't buy from him.
This other dealer was willing to deal. They had a Silverstone Track w/ navigation sitting there. They wanted to get rid of it in a bad way. I wanted a Blue one. The sales guy offered me a "deal" on a car that was supposedly "too much in demand." They ALMOST threw in the navigation at NO CHARGE, when they found a blue one in Minneapolis. The Daytona Blue was more important to me than navigation, so I took it. It had stuff on it that I didn't want, so they didn't charge me for them...about $600 off a car they had to truck in. Not bad. The day I picked it up, they pulled it around the building and my jaw dropped! I still, to this day, have never seen a more beautiful sight. The sun caught the paint in just the right way and it was awesome!!! She was my first-ever new car, and I still wouldn't trade her for anything, even for a Ferrari!

Go Hokiez!
Sorry, just had to do it. I am a bit envious however since when I was there (Chem E, graduated in 1998) I was driving a 1987 chalky yellow chevy cavalier with a whopping 90HP, at the flywheel, from a bitchin inline 4.
God I hated that car.....
