Question Hawaii Owners

I am going to be moving to Hawaii very soon, and I am about to put 20's on my car.
My question is, Can I have 20's and Do I need to becareful about what mods I do because of the inspections and recon.
I have heard of some horror storys about car mods.
Thanks

20 on the Z? that's huge. id go with 19 which is max to fit with the look. a car that small going around with 20s makes it looks like an SUV, or offroad vehicle. it's just not proportional, you just have to go with the right size!!! which is 18 max for me, so that i can lower it and lower profile tires.

The roads over there rated worst in the nation, FWIW. The recon ***** are as bad as you heard on Oahu. It is best to modify the car to not attract attention from HPD, particularly in a modified Japanese car. There is an unofficial crackdown because of some highly publicized ricer/racer related deaths of late. There are a lot of places to slide you a safety check for cash, though.

This sucks, get rid of my bike to mod my car, and now I cant even do that because the law is to strict. I was looking for more of a show look right now, and I was going to buy a 2nd set of tires and wheels to race on the strip with.
I was looking at 20's, bodykit, and coil-overs
maybe I should just forget it now.

Holy cow. I'm moving to Hawaii in a while too. I didn't know about all of this.

Actually, the roads that I drove were all surprisingly good.

I cannot believe they can be worse than the roads in the Bronx.

Roads are kinda junk in Honolulu. After heavy a heavy rain/traffic, lots of pot holes tend to show up.

Also, there is always some kind of road work goin on around town...digging up stuff everywhere Tons of patch work paving too.

the roads in town are not that bad. at least not the ones i drive on... but it can get pretty bad in some areas. wakaZ is right. there is always some sort of road construction going on. sometimes they have the places all coned off and narrowed down to one lane and when you finally drive by, there is no one working.

i have modded cars before and i never did get a recon sticker. cops and the safety check stations never asked me for it. i dont even know where the recon station is. i heard you are supposed to get it though. the thing the safety check stations seem most concerned about it that your tint is no more than 35%. other than that, the ones i go to seem pretty easy going.

i dont think there is any problem with getting 20's though... as far as getting them approved. then again, i dont know but personally, i think they are too big. i see some guys driving around with mercedes or navigators with huge azz rims and thin strips of rubber showing and it looks kind of dumb imho. if you do hit a pot hole, that is it for the rim.

anyways, take it easy.
