Default My car got nailed

Hey guys, someone did a hit and run on my car while i was in class. I come back to see something that looks like it got hit by a cannonball. Anyways, I just wanted to know what kind of effect that has on my insurance. I know my insurance is going to have to cover it because, well, the other person didnt give a f*** and just left. Will my insurance fee increase? Thanx guys.

If there's no frame damage, it's probably better to pay to fix it yourself over filing a claim.

Are you insane man?

With state farm, that would be an incident, however, you weren't at fault, so no rate change for you...

LOL, that might be a stretch. I would get this fixed through your insurance and file a police report. Yeah it sucks to file a claim but this is why you have insurance in the first place.

Just because its not his fault doesnt mean the rates cant go up. Its all based on his loss ratio. How much has the company collected compared to how much he has paid them. If the ratio is high then that person is a bad risk and gets higer rates or cancelled. Later.

I have always been under the understanding that if you make a claim on YOUR insurance, then your rate will go up. If you make a claim on THEIR insurance then your rate won't go up.

Since there's no "THEIR" insurance company (unless you can somehow catch the person that did it) you would be responsible for the bill. If you make a claim to YOUR insurance company, then you will be covered minus the deductible.

Sometimes it is worth paying for the damage yourself in order to save filing a claim, although $2000+ sounds like a lot of damage, especially when the quote was from a "friend". Where did you get hit? I'm sure this thought may have crossed your mind, but if it's the front or back you may be able to replace the parts with an aftermarket upgrade. It may be cheaper than OEM parts and possibly increase the look of your car. That way when you shell out the money, at least you got "something" for it. Just a thought. Good luck.

I'm with anyone2u on this one. Go aftermarket if the damage is in a part you can swap out with a kit etc ... If you dont have the cash, I would file a claim. As said, this is what insurance is for. I hope you called the police.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad day man. Unfortunately, too many a$$holes out there. After it is fixed, you won't even be able to tell. Good luck bro

Your rate will change almost everytime on one claim, and two will definitely make a difference. If he had 6 or 7 hundred in damage it'd be cheaper in the long run to fix it himself, especially if he has a $500 deductible. However, with $2000 he should probably file a claim.

hey guys, thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately my car got hit on the panel surrounding the gas tank. I know when its all fixed it will look like nothing happened but you know, we're those type of people that know where all our lil scratches are hehe. Anyways, i also found out that it's a 1000 dollar deductible. Its wierd, cuz so many other people were more pissed about the damage than I was. I guess I just realized that I'm blessed to have such an awesome machine to begin with and thats that.
