I was at 1500 before pulling redline. I also gradually increased the maximum RPM too. Up till 500 miles it was 4000RPM, after 1000 miles it was 5000RPM, after 1500 miles it was the rev-limiter. Each time I started a new "milestone", I would briefly hit the new RPM limit. As more miles came along I would increase the amount of time I spent there.

The big thing is to drive it how you intend to drive it. Don't "grandma" it for 5 years and then pull redline. Ridges form at the tops of the cylinders where the top piston ring stops. As RPM increases, the connecting rods stretch more, and so this ridge will get higher and higher. If you develop a low ridge by putting around for 10,000 miles then suddenly start pulling redline, the piston ring can collide with this ridge and break the ring...very bad.

I've set my shift light for 6000 RPM. The Z makes no torque past that point, so I've seen no use to go higher. I'll trigger the shift light once every couple weeks (a few hundred miles) to keep everything in check.

1200 miles=break in is over

drive the **** out of your car before something unexpected happens. My best friend in the world died at 20 y/old and I bet if he had to decide between break in of an engine and enjoying TODAY, he would have picked today. Today is real, everything else is just speculation. *Mikestro is a little intoxicated tonight*
