Must have a killer deal, I'm looking at the D5100 right now. Lense is only the 18-55 though.
used market for those is good, use to have one for travel but the build did not stand up to sand, hikes, abuse, wet, etc. I shoot on an older nikon d2xs as a travel. Old but lenses are what makes magic. If your in that 5100 used range of 300$-400$ i would look at a d300 (if you can opt out video) or older d7000. for 130ish you can pick up a nikkor 35mm 1.8 for dx. tack sharp for its price.
on another note for some reason my remote for the 350z crapped out today. Not a bad battery. Anyone else have this issue?
Having done the SLR thing, i can safely say, don't get the lens kit packs, buy the body only and get a specific higher quality lens.
Budget for that, not the for the price you see with the kit lens. Whilst the kit lenses take nice enough pictures, they're nothing compared to *any* have decent 'non-stock' lens, even if you just get the 'pancake' lens (next on my list)
So yes, that does look like a $1900 lens picture Hence why i asked

5100s are listed new now for $380ish on some sites. Those come with the 18-55 lens kit though.
Edit: I will look into just the body and then buying a lens. Anyone have any recommendations for a bangin lens that's less expensive?

i am moving away from nikkor and more third party now since they are beginning to step up their game. I took a gamble back in Jan when the sigma released their 35 1.4. its by far the sharpest lens in my bag wide open under a grand.
