Default How many miles before the Z really depreciates?

Being practical I will sell my Z with under 15,000 miles.

I love it to death but in two years I will be in a very different place in life and I may need to sell.

What should my yearly mileage be limited to before value decreases?

Hell, you don't even have to drive it off the lot. All you have to do is complete the paperwork.

Once you own it, you lost money... It happens with EVERY CAR you buy.

not with used cars
if you got a good deal on used cars you may make money when you clean it up and sell it.

i konw ALOT of people who will only buy a car that had a previous owner with low miles....

that way the other person eats the depreciation value...

example...

my friend got a BMW 325CI with 4000 miles on it for i think it was close to 9g's less then a new one...

PLUS since its "Used" usually insurance is lower...

most cars lose close to 60% of their value in the first 2 years....especially american made vehicles. After that the depreciation slows down to a smaller and steadier pace. Its not really about miles.....its about time.

What we are trying to say is:
BEND OVER---beacuse it aint gonna be pretty. That being said try to stay under 50K and you will be able to get more than the high mile guys in 2 years.

that's not practical at all. you took a 20% hit on the value of the car when you drove it off the lot. the depreciation for every year and mile after that is tiny in comparison. the practical thing would be to amortize your initial loss over several years. some kid that can't afford a 2009 400z twin turbo would be happy to buy your car.

if your plan was just to eat the depreciation value, you should have leased the car.

Default I understand the A,B,C's

that's not practical at all.
Practicality is in reference to my being able to accept the possibility that I might not always be as in love as I am now.

you took a 20% hit on the value of the car when you drove it off the lot.
This is new car basics...

What I am asking is when a 'sports car' begins losing value solely based on mileage. Many cars are about 10,000 / year. I've heard 7,000-8,500 / year for 'sports cars'.

In short I am not rich&fickle and I did not buy into payments I can't afford. I am simply investigating resale before I turn my Z into a miles-mule. For 98% of us we have to consider that in 2006 we will fall in love with a new car (ie 2005 Toyota Supra?)!

This is where my Z will come from.

Why didnt you just lease? I'm not putting much stock in the '05 supra. Toyota has always been riding on nissan's tail. Look at the Mk2 and mk3. What the hell was that?

Not every car depreciates as would be expected by a normal car. Example, I had a '91 Mustang LX 5.0 and when KBB/Edmunds said it was worth mid to low $4,000, I sold it for $5,500 because it was one of the cleanest ones in Orlando. My guess is the Z will hold it's value better than a typical car. You can't find a used one for less than $27,900 here, asking price anyway. Most are asking $29,000+.

Put it this way, I paid 35k for my '03 Touring in August of last year and I have only 6k miles on her now. In last Sundays paper, there were 2 Tourings with the same equipment on it for 29.5k and 30k with similar miles. I love my car, but that is depreciation at its best.

And those tourings will actually sell for 27K or less. So Woody would have lost over $8,000 in half a year.

the only was you ever come out on a car basically, especially a new car.....is to buy it and drive it til the wheels fall off. Sure 30 or 40 years from now a pristine Z may be a collectors car and worth some money........but new cars are almost always a losing proposition.

I would keep the yearly mileage to 10-12,000 miles and keep every maintenance record I had and maintain it better than the book. After 2 years, miles are important, but CONDITION is the most important factor of them all, IMO.

I sold my 97 Accord EX 5spd for 48% of the original sticker price after 4 years and 56,000 miles because I kept meticulous records and took excellent care of the car. BTW, I sold it to a dealership's used car Manager. He offered me a price, I countered with $500 more and he took it. The car looked brand new and drove better.

hey if ya dont care thats cool.....but writing it off on your taxes isnt that great an incentive......you still spent the money. Thats like your wife saying, "hey there was a 50% sale on......I bought $100,000.00 worth so i saved us $50k" you still spent 50k lol
