Arrow Please Help me with this one

Hello,

this is my first time on this forum and already it looks good

anyway here is my situation ( )

I'm 18. I drive a 98 Corolla and eversince the 350's came out, I've been wanting one REALLY bad... this is my problem though..

How do I get one? When youre 18 you dont get good deals when it comes to car payments, insurance and so on.

I guess if I even consider gettting one, it'll be the cheapest Base model. But I wanted to ask you guys, should I wait til I'm older to get one or start saving up for a downpayment now? I can trade in this Corolla for about $4500 max plus whatever I put down for down payment.

My income situation is simple. I work 2 days a week making about $1320 a month. Outta that, currently I have to pay 280 for my Corolla insurance (230) and 50 for my cable internt (gotta have that) and by the way, my corolla is paid off so I dont have to worry about that.

now, do you think I'll be able to get a Z with this income Plus pay insurance AND once I get it, I will be able to at least pay gas?? heh... I'm screwed

Any suggestions??

Thank you

What do you do where you only work 2 days a week and still pull in 1320 a month?

Your looking at a 450+ car payment a month with a decent rate
Your looking at probably 200+ a mont in insurance at least for your age and location.

Thats 750 min right there. almost 3/4's of your income.
And those figures are probably a little kind.

heheh, I knew somebody was gonna ask me that

well I work at Panera Bread ( www.panerabread.com ) and for those 2 days of work I do about 14-16 hours a day so that's how... it sucks but I'd rather do that than work all week long for less money

anyway..thanks for the numbers...they look good but I'm still unsure if I wanna pay 750/month for the next 5 years .... This is my last year in high school and next year I gotta start college so that might mess me up... also, my dad might move to Fort Lauderdale leaving me in this house... I'ma get 3 roomates so we can pay it off so that too might cause some problems... so right now it's the worse time that I have to take this decision...

Honestly if you can wait 1 or 2 years and just build up money and such you'd be way better off. Then you could probably afford to pick up a higher end model Z.

I would wait. When young, delay huge responsibilities as long as you can. You will be in college, where you will find a lot of things to spend your money on, and the good gas mileage of your current car will help you out. The longer you can go without huge bills, the better.

If he was paying $280/month for a '98 corolla, he will easily pay in the upper $300 or possibly $400+ for insurance on a Z.

I know kids (around the age of 18) that had bought mustangs and their insurance was more than a decent car payment. One example was a kid getting a mustang from his grandmother for a present, but had to get the v6 because either he couldn't afford the insurance or nobody would insure him, regardless, he payed around $500/month for insurance on that car.

My suggestion would be to wait, stick to a 4 door car, save up your $ because insurance is going to kill you on RWD coupe until you turn 25. Not suggesting waiting that long, but atleast a couple years.

Zivman... I think you misunderstood me...

I said all my bills for the month add up to 280.. I'm not paying 280 for insurance

my REAL insurance should be 200 but they just increaded it to 230 because I didnt show me a copy of my grades to get the "good student discount" but I will soon and that'll bring it back down to 200...

anyway..my real concern is not insurance... it's just that once a get the car, and start paying it off... that plus the insurance will = no money for anything else like gas, girls , mods on the car like decent rims, and "maybe" a bodykit... and if i'm making 700-800 only for insurance and the car, i'll never get any of those

Get a used EnthuZiast now that its winter. You can get them for less than $23K. Then try to use one of your parents as a co-sign so u can insure in their name.
Payments will be reasonable and insurance will be much cheaper.

good plan but wont work

the first one.... my dad wont let me get a used car...(he doesnt trust the person who drove it before me) so I HAVE to get it new

about the insurance...well there's 4 people in my family with 4 cars so I can't be co-signed as a part time driver because of that reason... before I was paying only 70 a month when we had 3 cars... ahh..good times...

Sounds like the problem is with you. You think getting a new Z will make you $hit diamonds or something? Finish school

Sorry guy, but my opinion is to stick to school and your corolla. Like most of the replies here, I believe that you would be way better off waiting a few years. We can't ALL have what we want right away. Hell, I've wanted a house in Hawaii for years and years, and still don't have one!!!!

Also, with age comes maturity, in life, and in driving.

PS, your dad would MAKE you get a new car??? Aren't you 18???
Used is good---when you wreck them racing your buds after a night of partying in college, used is very good!!! Wait till you're outta college. IMO.
