Traded in the Z for a G today
With a baby on the way, we needed to have a second car that would also be able to hold a baby seat. Not an option in the Z, so I traded it in for an '06 G coupe.
I must say, I lost some zip, but the car rides really nice, a bit softer and quieter (cabin noise) than my Z, and still has the nice exhaust note.
Sad to see the Z go, but happy with the alternative; the G.

+1 I am driving my wifes 2 door accord and she has the Murano and trust me it sucks having to deal with a 2 door car and a baby. You should have gotten a sedan. You will be sorry trust me.

We came up with enough scenarios that could happen and 99 times out of 100, we would be taking our other car (RAV 4). the reason I got the coupe was a great deal and to be honest, I know it wont be the easiest to deal wtih getting a baby seat in and out of the back, but the times that i will need to do so will be rare. We wont need to have both of our cars as full time kid carriers.
nice ride!, the rims are hideous though.. i was going to get a white G but the one i was looking at was automatic so i was like f*ck that.. i think there better looking than the 350z, the coupes at least, more feminine & just a bit slower. good luck with the new baby!!
I think you made the right choice buying a coupe. As you say you will take your other vehicle most of the time when you need to take the baby along. IMHO, the G35 coupe looks a million times better than the sedan. The sedan just looks too ordinary to me, like a Camry or something along those lines. The coupe looks like a sports car.
I think you are really going to like your G35 coupe. I read the comments about accessing the child seat; but as you point out, that will be an infrequent occurrence in your case. I’ve seen this setup, and it’s not bad if you have the passenger seat set forward for easy access to the rear. The G35 coupe has a long door making easy access to the rear seat.
The G35 coupe has a great interior with very comfortable seats that still hold you in place quite well in hard turns. Also, the G35 coupe has the same wheelbase as the G35 sedan (the coupe’s front and rear wheels are closer together, but the coupe is a couple of inches wider giving the same wheelbase). That means a very comfortable ride in a two-door car.
I’m seriously considering trading my 350Z for a G35 MT coupe; but every time I get close to pulling the trigger, I have a problem giving up the Z.
The G35 MT coupe advantages:
The Z advantages:
I don’t know… If I trade my Z for a G, it’s mostly because I want something different. But,I fear I may regret doing this. So for now, I think I’ll just kick the can down the road.

The G35 MT coupe advantages:
- Better interior
- Very comfortable seats that still keep you in place
- Rear seats and more cargo space
- More comfortable ride due to the greater wheelbase
- More quiet ride than the Z due to more sound-deadening and rear wheels inside the trunk vs. inside the car (but, as you point out, you still hear the great exhaust sound)
The Z advantages:
- Body style (the Z looks great and the G is plain… some people might prefer the plain look of the G, but the Z is a beautifully sculptured car that get noticed)
- There are many more customizing options for the Z than the G. That includes body panels, suspension, wheels and tires, interior, and A/V setups. If you like changing your car, you will like the Z better. It’s really fun to spend maybe like 2K or 3K and get a very different ownership experience.
- The Z is more fun to drive with its shorter wheelbase and “go-cart like” handling. Just changing the wheels/tires provides a very different driving experience with the Z. If you do some suspension changes with the Z (and that really isn’t too expensive), you get even another new driving experience.

I own both a Z and a G coupe there both very fun to drive but the back seat is such a nice thing in the G because theres always that 3rd person somewhere. My G rides a lot quieter than my Z too

I know, I know, but I had to take my wife in consideration. She "can" drive stick, just doesn't like to. Plus, with her being preggers right now, I thought that should she want to drive it, she would have an easier time.
What I have noticed so far.
1. The sound is great. Give it a little gas and the kids at the bus stops will look up

2. smoother ride, less rattles and clunks than my Z (surely don't miss those).
3. Still looks very nice. I miss the look of the Z. I still think that the Z looks nicer than 95% of the cars out there.
4. Slower. Weighs a lot more than the Z, so that is expected. Still has some grunt, but not as quick as the Z.
5. Much more luxurious (obviously). I went from a Base Z to a G with premium package and intelligent key. Nav, auto dimming mirrors, hands free phone with my iphone, leather seats, dual climate, 6 cd player, etc, etc...
I miss the Z, but if I had to make a sacrifice, I think the G35c is a good second choice.
^^ Don't be so sure on your statement: "# 4. Slower. Weighs a lot more than the Z, so that is expected. Still has some grunt, but not as quick as the Z."
Both cars are heavy (over 3K lbs.) by coupe standards. A slight 200-300 pounds difference isn't that significant when comparing these two rather heavy cars. In fact when Car & Driver magazine compared the two at 0-60 and quater mile runs, they were nearly the same.

The chirps you get with the MT actually cost time. The AT is really smooth (getting you there better than what you get with missed or poorly-timed shift points on your MT).
I really like a MT better (and would not want an AT). But, I’m “old school” and reared on MT’s, so that is what I prefer.
Please let us know how you like the G after you drive this car for awhile. You provide a good measure since you come from a MT 350Z to an AT G35.
BTW: I read the comments about a child seat with a coupe. I really do not think this will be an issue. The G35 has a long door and access to the rear seat is very favorable.
Plus… the rear seat in the G35 coupe is very inboard providing a safety cocoon you don’t have with the 4 door G35 sedan. Think about the worst case scenario where that rear door pops open in an accident or roll-over. That won’t happen with your coupe.
Your new child will be the most precious cargo you ever haul; and in fact, the kid will be safer strapped to the rear seat in your coupe than in the rear seat of a sedan car.
Just a thought.
