Default winteriZing to undercoat or not?

I will drive my Z this winter (its first) and up here in IGLOO land we get tons of that white stuff, I am debating whether applying an underbody rust spray is a good move. I plan on keeping the car 3-4 years and am most concerned about resale value. I figure the rust proof will best preserve the clean look of the underbody. Any feel its application is a waste of time and money?

Most manufacturers discourage it as not necessary.

hrmm...

i DO know that the Z has some kind of warrenty that covers rust etc for x number of miles
