There is some truth to this. Continuous levels of high heat are probably the number one killer of auto transmissions. If you are manually shifting your AT w/ the intent of holding it at a higher rpm for a longer period of time than what it would do in full AT mode, it will produce more heat and over time shorten the life of the transmission.

So, it has been almost a month since my original post RE: the automatic/manual shifting of the Z. My what experience does. I not only love automatic/manual shift option, but it is the only way I drive it. Not doing so seems like a complete waste of car. I love this car and wish I could mate with it and make little Z's.......

If you are always using the manual shift option (again, this isn't manual shifting but is simply having you set the shift points) then it seems to be a waste of the auto? If you always want to determine your own shift points, then why not get a manual transmission and save the wear and tear on the auto?

I can see lots of situations where it would be nice to have an automatic. And with an automatic I can see some, rare, situations where it would be nice to use the "manual" feature. But to do it all the time seems pointless.

That's just me however.

Look into getting Padel shifters, Much more fun. Can also be mounted on stock steering wheel.

I installed the valve body upgrade and that helped a huge amout with making shifts quicker and firmer

then upgraded the stock battery ground cable (installed JL amp / sub) .. that seemed to help the manual mode a good bit too along with the feel / response of the engine

go look at the stock ground wire .. then look at the positive wires .. huge difference

I installed two 4 gauge wires for the ground .. going to the stock location on the car (two 10mm bolts) .. then used a heavy duty terminal from the auto parts store .. think I spent about $12

I agree on the Valve Body huge difference and for me would never now even consider a Manual. The Car is tight now and I only every now and then use the shift mode for engine breaking only. I have a 2008 and it has had an ECU reflash as well as the GTM valve body upgrade. It’s now very quick off the line and pulls like mad. Me I’m 50 and I have had Manuals and Autos over the years and by far for this Car with the platform it sits on and engine coupled with a valve body upgrade gives you the best of everything in my opinion.

I only use my manual mode occasionally for fun, but it works great. If I use it at low rpm's it shifts slow and soft but at WOT it's very crisp and when I hit the shifts right (around 6100) it actually surges forward from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Also great for maintaining rpm's on winding roads (as others mentioned). For those who have done the valve body upgrade, what does that cost??

"That means no man card unless your handicapped."

I've had my man card for quite a while. Getting it didn't involve shifting gears. If that's part of the latest renewal test, I'm still good to go.

BTW, that should read: That means no man card, unless you're handicapped.

I see the paddle shifters, but what's the silver thing with the yellow button and red strap?
