How does this change anything half said yes and half said no its your decision look at the specs and decide. Its a subjective question. The way the economy is and the way cars are depreciating i would find the cheapest most cost effective way to get into and out of the z33. The extra hp is nice but at what cost. I would buy the car that experienced the biggest depreciation so far which is the de or revup. There are so many variables to consider when buying a car so to ask perfect strangers doesnt make any sense. they have different finances different income, bills etc etc.

HR cars are a lot more expensive....and HR stands for Higher Revving, because the redline is a little bit higher than the '03 style engine. Because it can rev higher, it gets a bit extra hp from being able to take the RPMs up more, hence the 306 hp instead of the 287.
But for regular driving I don't think you'd notice a difference between the extra power unless you take it past the DE's redline into HR territory. At least that's my understanding of it, maybe somebody knows more and can add on to it.
If the only difference between DE and HR (besides minor body differences) is the 19 extra hp because of an extended redline, then I don't think it's worth spending $8,000 for, especially when you're not going to be taking the RPMs up that high to notice on a regular basis.

I was under the impression that the HR's are good out of the box but a little more difficult to make big power on due to the 2 Intake mani's, Throttle bodies, etc. I mean I have a DE and finding parts was relatively easy.. but I've noticed that the HR doesnt have the parts bin that the DE has. The DE was the engine that was in majority of the Z's made from 03-08.. considering the HR was only available for 2yrs. In the long run your going to see that the DE is going to have more affordable parts due to the fact that engineers don't have to cater to a limited crowd of customers. As for the exterior.. my Z is an 04 Touring 6 with the whole 07 front end and taillights. Thats my opinion.. Simple is sometimes better... and to answer your question.. get what you can afford, I'd go for a higher end 04-06 instead of getting a stripped 07-08 for a HR.

when i bought my '03 used, the HR's were still new and out of my price range at the time. If I could of done it all over, I'd of saved and bought an '07.
ASIDE from the motor, the '07's have better looking headlights, tails, hood, interior and wheels than the DE equipped Z's. Sure, you could buy the above mentioned parts used to make yours equivelent. But once you add the cost of those parts to what you paid for the car. Your total will be close to what you would of spent on an 07 anyways.
If you're on this site, you are most likely an enthusiast that will plan on modding. DE + full bolts ons =260-275whp. HR + exhaust and tune = 300 or close to it (correct me if im wrong).
not to mention an 07-08 model will stay carry a warranty at this point. this is a pretty simple decision if you ask me. Good Luck with whatever you purchase!

mainly it pulls alot harder in the mid to upper rpms compared to my DE, i also read about the engine and they say its 80% redesigned to reduce friction allowing for the higher RPMs. since i plan on keeping this car for a long time im assuming less friction on the internals means the motor will last longer with proper maintenence. also its newer and i still have 4 years powertrain left and i bought it used.. dont plan on modding it much but when i do ill throw on some bolt ons and they say they respond better.. nor my DE or HR have any current mods

As stated, you will get opinions both ways... it comes down to your budget and what you plan to use the car for. I don't race my 350z and I don't plan on any mechanical modifications (I've been down that road many times with other cars and it always = money pit), so my 03 w/ 286hp is plenty for commuting and having some fun on windy roads. If you plan on racing your 350z and want to squeeze every last horsepower out of bolt-on mods, then go with the HR.
