If that dude could yank in a 1.9 60, he stands a chance to break into 12's...

Is the forum really to the point where we need to argue the obvious?

We have no idea what the OP's budget is, etc, so I am perplexed as to why the thread is 4 pages long

There is nothing else to it... good track prep and good DA...his car is not considered "stock" because he does not have the oem tires on it... he is still running crap street tires... and everything else on that car was bone stock... I saw it in person...this was already discussed in the top 25 thread...

Get the HR, it's the RSX-S of the 350z world. DE is the base RSX, heck, just get a RSX-S.

damn, a big bump. I've been a member here for a long while, and just now at this point in my life can I actually get a Z. I came on here hoping people would say the HR isn't THAT much of a step up from the DE/rev-up because I wanted to save a few grand, but it seems that if I'm going for it, I should do it right. My budget is around 15-16k and it seems like HR's aren't really selling for that little though.

I would just be patient, I was in the same situation you were in and found a great deal on a nicely modded 07 for 18k with 30,000 miles and extended warranty. I have seen some go for 14k and 15k with similar miles and year, so you gotta be ready cause they go fast at those prices.

Default Don't bother with FI

It is too expensive on the VQ35 for what you get, and the engine doesn't have the durability to back it up. A survey of 350z owners revealed that those with turbos experienced between 20,000-35,000 miles of FI before engine problems showed up. Many are ok with that, I wouldn't want such a short lifetime.

I would get the HR. The motor is pretty damn close to what's in the 370z / G37 anyways right? So by logic if Nissan is willing to dump the HR style motor into their newer lines of vehicles, it should be more reliable.

Plus I have family that have the DE motor in their G and Z and they are both on their 2nd motor.

yea I was thinking this. I had an 03 maxima 6mt for 4 years, and Nissan replaced the engine because it consumed oil. I haven't heard of this problem with the HR.

The HR doesn't have oil consumption issues. It's part of the reason why they revamped the motor entirely in 07.

I've had both and love my HR MUCH more. The higher revs, the interior, exterior adjustments. Just my opinion of course though.

HR is more powerful from the factory than the DE, but there are a lot less aftermarket parts available for the HR.
