is the HR Motor worth the extra money?
its legit, I was racing at the track with that guy a week prior to him running this time, and he was trapping 107 with terrible 60fts..... on the day he ran the 109 the conditions were perfect, great track prep with a ridiculous DA....
here is a crappy vid of us running, but at the end are the time slips... he trapped 106.94 and 107.24 to my 110mph traps that day..
now are 109 mph traps on a stock HR the norm.... absolutely not.... but it has been done...

Is this in Canada or something? Thats the only place i've seen crazy times occur.
Is the forum really to the point where we need to argue the obvious?
We have no idea what the OP's budget is, etc, so I am perplexed as to why the thread is 4 pages long

damn, a big bump. I've been a member here for a long while, and just now at this point in my life can I actually get a Z. I came on here hoping people would say the HR isn't THAT much of a step up from the DE/rev-up because I wanted to save a few grand, but it seems that if I'm going for it, I should do it right. My budget is around 15-16k and it seems like HR's aren't really selling for that little though.

It is too expensive on the VQ35 for what you get, and the engine doesn't have the durability to back it up. A survey of 350z owners revealed that those with turbos experienced between 20,000-35,000 miles of FI before engine problems showed up. Many are ok with that, I wouldn't want such a short lifetime.
I would get the HR. The motor is pretty damn close to what's in the 370z / G37 anyways right? So by logic if Nissan is willing to dump the HR style motor into their newer lines of vehicles, it should be more reliable.
Plus I have family that have the DE motor in their G and Z and they are both on their 2nd motor.

The HR doesn't have oil consumption issues. It's part of the reason why they revamped the motor entirely in 07.
