Default 35th Anniversary ups and downs?

So I did a few searches on the forum and didn't see any threads about the 05 35th Anniversary model. I'm looking into buying one of these soon its silverstone and comes with a nav and all the goodies, it has 65k miles and is going for 16 or 17k. Has anyone seen problems with these? So far I haven't come up with any unlike the 03-04 and 06's Whats your opinion?

Well, it has the rev up motor like the 06. Research the oil consumption threads. Be certain you have a history of the motor. Other than that, nothing too different until 07.

start here.

Same issues as mine. Potentially oil burning if it's 6mt. I vote '06 because that was the start of revised head and taillights without the bump in the hood

I'd love to get an 06+ but they're outta my price range, so is this the best bang for my buck? lol I mean i know most people freak over the oil consumption thing but it isn't on every motor and you need to change your oil once in a while anyway or does it burn EXTREMELY fast? Is the oil consumption that big of a problem in the 35th because I haven't seen much about it just in the 06's

It's the same motor. The issue was with the rings and in your specific (potential) car it should have been dealt with since you are buying the 2005 in almost 2012 (unless the previous owner was an idiot).

Haha ok thanks, and if for some odd reason he is an absolute idiot, is there a way to test the rings?

Can you do better than 65k miles? Maybe a 2003 or 2004 with less miles?

Typically, from the 2003s that I know, it is about 1 quart per 1000 miles. That is about 1 quart every 3 fills of the gas. An easy way to spot it is to check the tailpipe for residue, but that isn't always perfect.

I'm guessing if he had an issue he would have done an oil consumption test at the dealer where they lock down the filler and test the levels after X amount of miles. If that wasn't done, he/she may not have had issues.

Just ask the seller about these known issues and remember a used car sale is an "as is" sale unless the person selling it doesn't disclose an issue they knew about. Then it's fraud.

Don't be afraid of the rev up, just be informed and know about what you speak when talking to the person selling it.

Ya I have informed my mechanic and the seller agreed to let my mechnic do a full look over and put it on a lift so i'm not worried anymore, as for the less then 65k miles I haven't been able to find any around me that are in my price range and are a coupe...
As i'm about to be going back to school I don't have much more time to save up and get an 07/08, which trust me, is something I wish I could do

the VQ35DE 214kW doesn't burn excessive oil, the VQ35DE 220kW does from what I've read.

Isn't that revup vs non-revup?

As mentioned before 05' Anniversary 6MT = revup, 05' Anniversary 5AT = non-revup

So 6MT can have oil consumption, 5AT would be same as 03-05 nonrevup, correct me if wrong

-As for the other goodies, the anniversary is nice for its year, since it was basically the start of all this stuff. Has the brembos, nav, lolbose, dual-color seats if you have them, first year with the 18" wheels. "Special Z badging" that really doesn't look that much different at all, it has a very slight bronze hue and glossy black part to the Z emblems on the side, really a joke of a difference for Nissan to even create, at least make it more prominent.

For 05' overall I guess they were nice additions to the anniversary. But now the newer Z's pretty much have it all anyway plus added performance. If you could get an 07'+ that would be ideal but most likely more $$. Try to look or any signs of abuse when getting a Z, kids love to beat the **** out of em.

I got my 05' anniversary 18 months ago, had 28K and i paid 24K for it, dealer wanted 28K o.o

Luckly the previous owner is retiring so I think it was well kept, but after doing more research this car with 65k miles for $16k seems like it could be a pretty good deal!

For the engine to be replaced under oil consumption you need to burn 24 or 25mm of oil every 3k-3.5k miles. All I know is that the dealership claims I am at 5mm per 1k at the moment and my oil light comes on if I don't fill it up between oil changes. So you'd know if you had a problem.
