Default Dyno app for iphone & android

Hey guys,

I found a few dyno apps for my android mytouch "aDyno, DinoDyno" and I'm sure there are lots more for the iphone. You basically put in your car's specs such as weight, drag coefficient, drive train loss, etc and do a quick acceleration (1/8 mile) run and the phone will use its GPS and accelerometers to estimate your HP and Torque. Has anyone tried this before?

Well there has been threads on such apps on the iPhone. I honestly think it depends on what app you use and if you inter the specs correctly. Some people haven`t been more than 10hp off of what they have gotten on there dyno.

Too many unknown variables to make it accurate. How do you calculate drivetrain loss and coefficient of drag, especially if you modified the engine or the bodywork?

I have one that seems pretty accurate. Says I have 240 at the wheels on my s60r. That's right around what most people get on the real thing.

I played with the dynolicous app for the iPhone and I was honestly impressed. I used it on my 08 350z and it said it had 268 horsepower. Pretty close to what a HR would dyno at.

That has zero to do with a dyno app. As you appear to have very detailed knowledge of the inner workings of the iPhone, how sensitive are its accelerometers, and how many does it contain?

These things don't use GPS.

Actually, GPS in generally isn't really all that accurate -- even when standing in the middle of a field. Part of that problem is the same effect that causes stars to "twinkle" and part is that a geostationary orbit is not a stable orbit, so the satellites are always moving in relation to their "reference" location.

However, most of the dyno apps use the accelerometers, and they measure down to AT LEAST 1/1,000 of a G, which is good enough for most measuring purposes.

And you obviously don't own an iPhone.

You're a tard if you try to dyno your car with your phone. /thread

Actually I own 2 and I am also a registered iPhone developer. I haven't bought dynolicous or installed any of the free dyno apps but I am curious. Provided sensitive enough accelerometers, and accurate enough timing in the app, it could be comparable to or better than a GTech. And people of course complain about the accuracy of the GTech.

Its absolutely irrelevant to this thread, but the iPhone uses the same AGPS chipset as many other devices, so I am curious why you think it sucks.

Well probably its going to be announced this month at the upcoming press event. All the analysts think its going to be a tablet or Verizon iPhone. Really its the "iBlowJobs" application.

As it will be brought to you by Apple and AT&T, it won't blow you, but unfortunately the other way around with your lips ending up on Steve Job's c*ck. iBlowJobs. Get it!!!?!
