wait you'll trade in a Z with 15k for a M3 with 52k?
even though its an M3 it still has triple the miles you have on your Z..... Dont do it in my opinion, your trading your newer and less mile car for a older and more mileage car....
another note...you dont drive your Z do you? 15K thats probably one of the lowest mileage 03 Z's out there.

Of course not. 1st urs is a '03 with 15k, the m3 is an '02 with 52k. 2nd the bimmer is not gna hold up for u and ur gna go to the garage frequently. my '02 X5 with the exact miles on like the m3 is turnin out to be a pain in the a$$. while my '04 Z w/ 63k miles on is strong as anthn!

As for the OP, have you factor in (and can you afford) the added cost of maintenance for the M3 as well as a possibility of an increased insurance premium?

The maintenance is crazy on BMW's especially M3's my buddy got rid of his new 04 at around 46k and all i'll say is the car had a new trans installed, tons of error codes putting it in limp mode on more than one occasion and it was broken in to. At 50k you only have 20k left before the dealer tells u to assume the position when it comes time fix something.

Make sure the M3 has had the rod bearing recall, rear subframe inspection, and ask when the last time the valves were adjusted. Other than that, take the obvious things into consideration that were pointed out, mileage, maintenance, etc.
Chad (would keep the Z)

BMW more miles = expensive problems = teh suck = no.
IMO, e46's are *** ugly, if it ain't e90's I would NEVER trade a better looking car over it.

Oh the M3 6-speeds are super fun to drive!! But I would go with a newer one....and if you do get the M3 make sure you change your tires often! We have had so many BMW's in the shop because of hydroplaning. Their tires wear so much faster than most vehicles because they are heavy.

like everyone is saying can you afford to maintain the M3 i know it's alot of $$$ my dad just did his 03 M3 brakes and rotors with new rear tires $5000 out the door. so if you can swing that every so often then yes its a real fun ride to have
another oil change is about $120 every 4K Motul full syn.

do you love your Z? If you do, don't get rid of anything you love because you'll just want it back. Trading it wouldn't be suffice for me, I would have to have both cars.. your z is stock and only has 15k miles, no way I would get rid of it

+1.
I'd keep the Z. Someone earlier said it, since your car is paid off just save up and buy yourself a new BMW if you still want it. I wouldn't even bother with that. Maybe you can save up even more and get yourself something super ridiculously sweet like a Porsche GT3 lol but that's pushing it
Honestly though, 15k miles man. On an 03. That thing is still a baby at 7 years of age.

There is no question here, the E46 M3 hands down. Tke it from me, Ive owned 2 built 350z's and an e46 M3. The M3 is a better car in every way.
Dont be turned of by poeples claims to maint. cost. Yes, it is more expensive, thats undeniable. But poeple who dont own M3's love to cry about how they only run for 50k and then they magically become a money pit.
If you and the owners before you have done the proper maint.,then you will have a solid realiable car that will certainly put a smile on your face eveytime you get into it. Trust me, its all about preventative maint with german cars!
Now, there is a few reasons why the guy with the M3 wants to trade. More importantly, understand that Tiag Silver M3's are the most common on the market.
Take it from me, I had a Tiag Silver 2004 M3 with black leather interior that was absolutley immaculate, and it sold for alot less than alpine white etc.
I say go for it, but make sure your not walking into it blindly. Get a reputable shop or dealer to do a PPI on it. If it checks out and all recalls are done like the rod bearing etc then do it. Youll never look back.
Let me know if you have any other questions... Good luck.

i'd stick w. a Z. m3 parts are stupid expensive to maintain and parts also aren't cheap. i've driven both and i think the Z is a way more fun car to drive although i do feel the m3 stock vs Z stock, the m3 has more sack
