fun factor: both cars are great ( i have both ) .. The M3 is not as high maintenance as some people over exaggerate it to be..... this is my 3rd BMW and never had any issues with them whatsoever.. the only thing i replaced on my M3 is the bushings in the past 2 years.. and IMO, BMW is the most reliable car on the market.

plus resale on the M3 is high and easy to sell.. i was just testing waters on selling my M3 and got 2 calls within the hour of posting

E46 M3's are some of the nicest cars on the road gotta becareful when buying them though... every 10k miles the valves need .... 40k miles needs a service 2 with all the spark plugs changed and if its SMG becarful of the tranny slipping.. one other thing if you look thrugh the left front tire right above the belly pan check for a leak common problem on the car..... i sold my bmw nd just got an 05 Z also with 15k miles

Umm, no. S54's have the valves adjusted at every Inspection 1 or Inspection 2. Inspection 1 is done at 30k, Inspection2 at 60k, Inspection 1 at 90k, etc.

<-- is a BMW tech

another oil change is about $120 every 4K Motul full syn.
Your dad needs to learn how to shop around because he's getting raped in prices. There's no way an M3's OEM brakes or similar replacements cost $5k, even with 2 of the BEST tires.

...and $120 for an oil change? RAPED!

Its probably not an oil change.. he's probably getting the service for the mileage of the car.. ie: inspection of the brakes, suspension, and engine.

Z dude. you have a nice scenerio with a paid Z and only 15k miles. I agree with everyone who says you should save for a new nicer M3. The newer models look a lot nicer imo.

His car is worth more than yours, by a good bit too. His car should be worth 18-22k - Your car is worth like 13-16k... It's DEFINITELY a good idea for you to do it.

Well i guess i should have said this is Canada not US our parts are alot more $$$ and this is through BMW Stealership priceing. tires for the M3 in CAD funds are $1500 already i know in US tires are not expensive

PS: you guys have to keep in mind he is in Canada same as me we pay lot more for parts not like you lucky US guys

Please note that a CHEEZY UGLY High mileage 350Z in Canada is worth 17-18. Currently, my 350Z and his M3 on canadian market are worth the same. Body has some imperfections on his M3 and he has the 18 oem wheels, not the 19" oem.

I'm pretty sure that is a very bias answer. If you're going to talk reliable look at honda's and toyota's ( disregarding the toyota thing occuring now). Secondly both people I know have 325i's from same generation and every electrical problem is occuring to them at this point. Unless I'm mistaken, m3's and 325i's should have a lot of common attributes. And when I say electrical problems, I mean a range from dash lighting to ecu malfunctioning. Both which costs an immense amount to fix. Personally, I feel jap cars are cheapier and easier to fix.

Agreed. Both cars are good cars. Basically it comes down to personal preference.

Garentee you will miss your Z if you get rid of it though. Thats why I am buying another one lol

the grammar and spelling of some of the posts really makes this thread hard to follow. but lets get down to business. 15k on a 03 that you DD? that's ridiculous. i'd say do the trade if you plan on continuing your driving habits. i doesn't take that much to keep a high quality car running around 2k miles per year.

I bet your dad services his car at a dealer right? Hell..I don't even pay that much for maintenance on my 03 C4S

$120 for an oil change?

Hint: DIY
