Default Flashing Headlights

I do a lot of highway driving. I generally stay in the left lane and move right when faster traffic overtakes me (not often). My question is how many of you flash your headlights to get traffic to move? Traveling I-95, it is generally received as aggressive driving and causes other drivers to reciprocate driving aggressively. I concede this may be a regional thing that is considered acceptable in other parts of the country. Any thoughts?

I'll give a couple quick flashes if I sit there for more than 15 seconds or so with no action to speed up or get over by the driver in front of me. If he doesn't move I usually just pass on the left. Screw it.

wow... i hope you mean pass on the right (if we are speaking about the left lane)... those run down lanes can be rough traveling at 70MPH+...

I flashed some guy yesterday. This idiot was going maybe 65 in the fast lane, and I got behind him, not tailgating, but I can see the idiot KISSING his girlfriend. So, I flash him, he moves over, THEN GETS BEHIND ME and puts his high beams on... And people wonder why there is so much road rage with idiots like that out there.

Last time i checked the Left lane is a designated passing lane, not for full time driving...the campers that like to drive in the left lane continously are the idiots who cause traffic to back up by causing both lanes to move at about the same speed instead of moving over and allowing faster traffic to proceed unabated. If you are moving faster than the right hand lane traffic fine but if you like to just drive in the passing lane for the hell of it, do us all a favor and get over until its time to pass then use the lane for what it is intended for!

And yes I do flash those idiots who obviously slept thru that part of drivers ed.

But it is nice when someone sees you coming and politely moves over for ya!

Sometimes i wish i had a snowplow on the front of my car to just move them over myself instead of following dumb***** who like to drive in the left and cause traffic jams.... ok enough rambling...thats my 2 cents

I flash only to warn for cops.

IME flashing slow cars on a 2lane road only makes them go slower. and theres no use on a 4 lane road, Ill just go around them when I can.

I agree with ares.

There are alot of idiots we have to share the roads with. Flashing the lights at these idiots rarely makes the situation any better.

I agree~
I normally just pass them if I can, cause most of the times, those idiots will just ignore ya(Maybe they have no idea what's going on). At least that's what happened to me most of the times here

Thats why i generally dont flash people. I think ive flashed someone maybe once. Usually i just wait or find another way around. Too much road rage in some cities. Lucky for me alabama is a pretty civil state.

i agree with Richard350z ,
another thing which is nice in Europe : when you move out of the way of a faster driving vehicle , after passing you he will thank you for moving by flashing his hazard lights , then you flash your lights for " you're welcomed " , i noticed some truckers in US doing that but very rarely

Haha oops! You're correct, I meant right. I missed that day in kindygarten.

Here in TX there are road signs in black and white (which signifies a LAW) that says slower drivers move right and left lane for passing only. Most people don't care. It is very annoying. From what I understand, if a car is speeding, but a car is in the fast lane holding him up, the blocking car will be ticketed and not the speeder. I wonder how many cops are aware of this?

If that is true then it is just plain stupid. Preiod. So I am trying to pass someone doing 50 in a 65 zone and you are doing 90, somehow I have broken the law while obeying it?? WTF?

Sadly 99% of drivers out there are not good. Think about that next time your topping out your Z next to these people who feel driving is merely for transportation, and do not bother to become familiar with such techniques.

On several occasions, I've had people do such ridiculous things such as "hitting my breaks" for me - ie: Me coming up on them at 100+, and them hitting their brakes FOR me. Not a good plan...

I don't think that applies. It applies to the people just cruising along in the left lane with no regard for traffic when they could make the same progress in the right lane. If you are using the lane for its intended purposes and I am speeding then of course I would be ticketed for speeding.

in hawaii if you flash your lights at day, people wont see it, and even if they did, they wouldnt understand it i think. at night you flash it at the wrong person, you could get beaten up or, on occassion, shot. it is so much easier just to go around the person imo. i am never in that much of a rush to get anywhere anyways.

i think the driving style in hawaii would drive most of you guys crazy. for the most part, everyone drives slowly around here. except for the island of hawaii, 55 mph is the limit. people going 65 mph on the freeway is the norm. sometimes 70 if they are in a rush.

oh yeah, if anyone visits here, dont harrass the slow minivans. chances are that it is full of samoans. you dont want to anger a samoan, let alone a van full of them.
