Like everyone said it was probably re-painted from rock chips. Plus, Carfax does not tell the whole story. My previous Z showed no repairs/accidents, it was in 3 of them.

certified only means that the dealer bought the car at a cheap enough discount and it has a clean carfax and i passes a required inspection for certification.most likely it cost the dealer about 1500-2000 for the certification,i would in the future overlook certified cars and get one that checks out buy a body shop and machanic.i just bought a 06 roadster one owner with 38k on her.had it checked out and paid 18k on the street.bought from a lexus dealer in atlanta.i retired from the airforce in 1994 and sold cars at a dealer in baltimore for sometime,i have seen cars towed in with damage and end up certified.good luck and dont worry about stuff you cant change.

Aight well again thanks for all your replies. My first thought was accident but seeing as how there are no other signs of an accident and hearing how this is common practice due to rock chips I'm not quite as worried anymore. I'll try and put some pics up of it soon.

If a car doesn't have insurance and gets into a accident it is "very easy" to hide said accident..................................... just saying

Did you really pay $22,500 for a base Z with 21k + miles. You should be more concerned with the amount of money you just overpaid then the front bumper bro. I got my 08 Touring with 12k on the clock for exactly the same price.

you also bought a 2-seat sports car in the middle of winter in PA. Not exactly a comparable market to San Diego

The cert costs the dealer about $600, though you pay a premium of about $1200. One can negotiate the deal without the cert, but the added warranty of the cert may be worth the extra money to some.

I'm finding TMV of the certified car to be $20,400 in California. Add tax and tags, and $22.5k is certainly fair. Not a screaming deal, but the OP didn't get bent over, either. I priced the car without any options (side airbags, rear wing, chrome wheels), so if any of those exist, that would make the price he paid even better.

its actually common from the factory that paint where is being covered or towards the ends or underneath such as the bumper where it isnt visible for the paint to seem unfinished, faded and rough.

Will wait to see pics. I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially if it's not that noticeable.
