What steps should we take to protect our cars?
Many of the readers on this board appear to come from larger metropolitan areas. With this car being as rare and coveted as it is, people are going to want to drive it without buying it.
1. What standard anti-theft protection will the car have? Is it enough to protect the cars from most thieves?
2. Is LoJack a good investment, or are there other anti-theft products that are better?
I haven't had a high profile car in while, and I trust the opinion of enthusiasts more than sales people at an auto specialty shop.

Self-secured Z
I do know that the Z has an anti-theft system which includes an immobilization system whereas the engine will basically lock up on any suspecting thief. This happens with a transponder in the car key (no battery) and a reciever transmitter in the ignition w/ an antenna. When you turn the key, the receiver sends out a radio field of 134Khz and the transponder in the key is charged. The transponder then has a "conversation" w/ the receiver which results in access to the on-board CPU and ignition is granted.
You can look this up at www.ti-rfid.com under automotive applications where you'll find a write-up on the subject. Pretty cool idea implemented by Texas Instruments. Some of the new Nissan models already have this feature... Now go read about science! Late...

1. I believe alarms do diddly squat. Just lock your car and keep whatever contents you leave in it hidden from view.
2. I'm a member @ Club3g (www.eclipseforums.org) and we have had a number of members who's cars had unfortunately been stolen. Vehicles were recovered/found because of Lo-Jack. Personally, I'd put one in my car if it's a high-end sports car. I believe the 350Z is considered a Class A sports car so... I suggest getting the Lo-Jack for it.

How much does LoJack usually run to put on a car? I've never used it before, but with an investment like the 350Z, it may be a good idea.

LoJack
Most cars recovered w/ LoJack (over 50,000 in the US) have some sort of anti-theft system.
Also, they have a typical recovery time of 2 hours with no damage. Without, it's 2 weeks and $6k + in damage.
I personally would like the car back right away.
Do you really think the insurance company is going to give you a check for MSRP for replacing the car? NOT!
