Thanks for the advice and insight, everyone! It's been super helpful.

Inspection went well, mechanic said the inner workings of madness inside of it are all clean, only thing really needed at the moment is the front brake pads need to be replaced, and the guy that is selling it has extras that he said he'll give me.

I'll keep you guys posted!

You do realize there is no state called taxes right?

OP, how many miles you will drive is a big factor in all this. Will this be your DD or will it be more of a weekend toy? Depending on your situation, I might or might not be worried about all those miles.

It'll be my daily driver. However I work from home and my school is about 8 - 15 miles away (never clocked it), and when I have to go in for meetings my office is about 10 miles away. But, like I said earlier I want to take it to the local track like once every 2 months or so and drift. I think on my current car I've been driving about 7-13k miles per year (once again, haven't really kept track aha).

Hell yeah man! And I definitely will, I know I'm going to need to drop some money on a LSD; not sure what else I'm going to need. My buddy did all of the mods on my 240 because at the time I didn't really care about doing the mods, all I cared about was driving it.. Now I find joy in installing and getting all the crap also, who would have thought?

hope your z works out
I was skeptical on buying my Z..
Mine is an '03 that had 42,000 miles on it when i bought it..
silver LMGT4 18" wheels Nismo suspension with nismo ground effects..
got it for $9,200... but it has a rebuilt title.. the value at time clean was twice that so I jumped on it.. Im glad I did..
For me it was an affordable way to get my dream car.. and Im tickled to death. Im sure you will love it

original owner of my 04 z now with 130,000 on it

things replaced:

Belts, plugs, 2 sets of rotors and 5 sets of brake pads, one clutch and flywheel,a key fob, and a sh!tload of tires.

As for the motor, it runs like new. As soon as you get the car just do a quick tune up: oil change, alignment, etc etc and you should be good. Check for synchro problems (1 out of probably ever 5 old Zs will have it).... god i hate that aweful grinding noise when i hear it on Zs and Gs

Goodluck!

Believe it or not the plugs are harder to change than the belts hah! I think it took me about 30 min to change the belts. You should be able to do both yourself depending on your mechanical ability. The plugs arent hard, just getting to them...I have a plenum spacer and adjusting the strut bar was a pain. I have been holding off on the plugs, probably my next thing though. It runs great and they are supposed to last 100k anyway, I'm at 62.

If I remember correctly the belts were like 60 dollars or something, and plugs...depends on what you pick, but I wouldnt Imagine more than 30 if you get primo plugs.

Great advice from Z-ya

Check the known things along with the suspension bushings, translink bushing, etc - see my thread on how to replace it.

- check bolt heads for replacement of parts under the hood.
- check the steering rack for leaks
- wheel bearings like mentioned
- axle boots for tears
- front ball joint at bottom of spindle
- cracked compression rod bushing
- operate the windows and see if the window motors operate well
- etc..etc..

also, your in SA, there are junk yards with parts you can snag from as well...i know...lol..

Excellent advice. Don't be afraid of purchasing the vehicle. The trannys (if there aren't syncro issues) are great and the engine should last a long while. If you have issues, replacement parts are readily available.

(130k on the car here, whee)

Congrats on the new toy! I'm lookin at picking up a Z that will most likely have 70-100k miles... from what I have read here these cars are pretty solid as long as they have been maintained well! GL with the new toy, can't wait to pull the trigger myself

Wow. Congratulations on your Z. I'm considering trading in my 04 g35 coupe for a Z, since insurance would be cheaper for me.

Thanks a ton! I'm glad this thread helped you two (well, at least one of you); I did so much searching on Google and whatnot and couldn't find anything that really answered whether or not it was a good deal or not. So I'm stoked this could help you guys

So I was suppose to get the car today, but unfortunately some chick at my bank put my social security number into the system incorrectly and it got to the Credit Bureau. So due to getting all of that fixed, I can't get the car until Monday. I'm upset and dying of anticipation but at least I don't have to worry about someone else buying it!
