Prospective Z Owner Advice
What's up guys, just sold my e36 m3 and am looking for a relatively new 350z - 07' coupe and up with a 6spd and under 30k on it. Stuff like what I'm about to ask has probably been posted before but I searched and couldn't really find anything definitive so I'm gonna ask, what are the main things to look for when buying, like problems these cars can have down the road, normal wear and tear what has to be replaced, everything. Thanks guys really appreciate the help!

Well I mean the m3 was getting kinda old - 153k on it haha and it's time to get something much newer. To be honest I don't have my heart set on a Z but I'm doing some research to figure out what the best buys gonna be, my budgets around 19 grand...

07s come with the VQ35HR motor which is the one to have. The Z is a great car with the same quarks that any sports cars have (limited trunk space, annoying rattles, and cheap interior). What you are getting is performance over luxury. If you're looking luxury then check out the G35. Other than that, I'm sure we could answer any other questions you might have.

Make sure there are no problems with the clutch or transmission. If anything feels funny I recommend walking away. I've had a bunch of clutch and transmission problems, including getting my whole transmission replaced at 7500 miles. I still have clutch problems to this day, and I've only got 15,000 miles on my car.
These problems are really common and can be a gigantic hassle.

I love my '07 but SHIV's right about the clutch issues with that year. Track days aren't as fun when your clutch pedal doesn't come back off the floor during the middle of a session. There is a recall, but it doesn't really fix the problem. There are, as far as I know, some fixes in the pipeline.

Damn, and the 08's don't have the same great motor? That sucks, well I guess it'll just be hit or miss. I feel alot of test drives in my future hahaha Are all the transmission problems covered under warranty?

I've had my 07 for coming up on a year now... I had the clutch slave cylinder replaced under recall, rear window replaced (bad defroster) under warranty, and a tire pressure sensor also replaced under warranty. My advice is to grab an 08 since the 07's bumper to bumper is probably expired.
Since having the clutch fixed, I haven't had an issue with it.

Sick thanks guys. From what I'm hearing they sound pretty solid, at least a lot more solid than my m3 haha I'll probably shop around a lot but I'm shooting for an 07' (preferably 08') and up black or blue Z with a 6spd mt. If anyone has any leads...ahahaha
