took my "new to me" 2005 yellow out to work for the first time last night parked it in the street and found a small ding/scratch on my driver door.

I almost didn't get this car cause I know how hard the street are out here but I refuse to compromise and drive a $2000 A to B car..

Aside from a drunk driver wrecking your parked car what are your experiences and what are my options when it comes to touch-ups and whatnot?

Loving this car,

Thanks!

I always park in the back of parking lots. Didnt care for a while until I started seeing dents appearing on my doors. I also wont park it in the street for obvious reasons. Maybe Im just a little overboard..I hate parking in streets for some reason.

You can go to an automotive paint store and buy a half pint or less depending on the color formula. Sometimes you can get 4-6oz's. You might check with the local dealer also, see if they sell touch up paint. You just need to make sure they sell it for the color code of your car. That would be your best option. Ive never liked the touch up paint the parts stores sell.

There's a teacher at the school just down the street who parks her Pontiac Solstice on the shoulder of a busy road with the tires half on the pavement. I didn't understood why she did that until I drove one.

Despite her efforts over the past year, the car is still ding-free.

Welcome. Drove a 350Z for 74,000 miles. No door dings. Zero. Vandalism yes. Door dings no.

BTW photos always helpful.

Door dings are $100 to fix via paintless dent removal, don't worry about it.

^+1 Just go get it removed and park at the end of the lot on the very edge of the last spot, or with one tire just outside of it.

Just don't take up 2 spots, because then your just an *******.

I got a door ding parking at the end of the lot with my tire half out of a spot because some jackass in an SUV decided they could jam there car between mine and the car next to me. I to this day do not know how they even got out of there car it was so tight. But it resulted in a door ding.

The next day I went to my local PDR shop and it cost me $125 to get it removed. Since then I only park in spots barricaded by 2 support beams on either side in that particular lot, so that no one can get within 2 feet of me.

... But anyways I feel your pain, door dings suck.

I guess I have been lucky so far, no door dings, crosses fingers. I try and park as far away from other drivers as possible, preferably in a parking spot on the edge of the lot that ONLY has asingle side of the car being vulnerable. Enjoy the car and don't lose sleep over small door dings, they can be f ixed easy enough.

Thanks for all the replies. Ill post pics with my posts next time..

I'm probably gonna lose my mind the day I walk out and see the bumpers scoffed up from someone pulling out.. ugh.. I'm getting mentally ready I mean i've seen it done to cars that cost 3x as much... hopefully keeping it clean will encourage someone to be extra careful..

Yes I know I'm sounding like a whiny b&$^ with all this but its only been 2 weeks.. lol

When I have to park in a busy parking lot, I don’t have much control over the actions of the cars coming and going into the parking spots on either side of me. One trick I’ve learned is to not pull in to the parking slot as deep as possible. I leave my *** end hanging out a bit. If the space on my right is available, a car approaching from my left will be forced to swing a bit wide to clear the protruding back end of my car. This will place him a little off center in his spot giving some extra room between him and my car. Even if the car is approaching from my right, for a space to the right of me, the protruding rear of my car creates a subliminal barrier to the driver causing him to cede a few extra inches on my side.

As stated above small dents that have not damaged the paint can be painlessly removed by a PBR system. Best to avoid a franchise place. They tend to be owned by some guy who was just laid off from a cubical job and has a week’s quickie training under his belt.

If using some touch-up paint, remember a shade that is even a tiny bit too dark will stand out like a sore thumb. Whereas a shade that is a tiny bit too light will not be noticed.

There is a body shop that also does detailing across from my Pilates class. I’ve stopped in a couple of times to inquire about some rock chips in my paint. Since my car is black I guess it’s an easy paint match. Both times they did the paint touch up for free while I was in class. So remember, always wear your cutest workout outfit when dealing with auto repair guys.

Biggest ding i ever had was on my hood. 2inch long and about half a cm deep.

i'm guessing a truck pulled right next to me, swung open his door carelessly and hit my hood. i was furious.
