I don't get why ZR is less practical in the snow? Just don't put down the top when it snows

It's a matter of opinion what car is better the s2k or 350z. My preference is the 350z.

Disclaimer: I have never tracked any car at any time. The only racing I have done is autocross (poorly).

Not sure what you are really asking about. S2000s have a lot let torque than a Z. That is a separate issue than the vert vs coup question.

The S200k is great once the rpms get past 4k. This is why it performs well on the track where the rpms are always in the upper range. For the street, there are lots of starts and stops where you spend more time in the low end of the rpm range and you notice the difference in torque.

I spent yesterday at an autocross event. I worked one apex corner in the afternoon. There was a significant difference watching the S2000s and the Z/G's go around the cone and accelerate. The Honda just couldn't get up to speed as quickly since it lacked the torque of the Z, even though it is a much lighter car. However, through the high speed sections of the course, the Honda can do much better than the Z (driver dependent of course).

BUT even foremost, WHAT THE HECK mades the S2000 less practical than the Z. They get better gas mileage, smaller engine, less power, last longer (made by honda) and probably cheaper......... idontgetit.
I just like the Z's, they seem to have a nice amount of room and look like a fun car to own. The 95 NSX-T I had was $30k and Im going to spend $11-12 on a Z. The S2000's have very little room and no torque at all. The gas mileage is a little better and unless I got a 2004+ S2k I would have the 9k redline engine which Im not a fan of. I do love S2000's but I also do not like convertible cars as much either. I agree that honda's are solid by the way

Thanks for the useful tips. I will shoot for a touring model later than 2004.

Yes.

I am not a convertible fan and couldnt spend $3k on an OEM hardtop for an S2000.

the 2000-2001's have plastic back windows which suck

The softtops look like crap and rip pretty easily.

the interior and trunk is less roomy

The 00's and some 01's have tranny issues as well

and a few other things I can add

I am a fan of an S2000, but Im leaning toward the 350z for many reasons and for a change.

PS- there is no replacement for displacement

I hear what you are saying but the reality is that a softtop is going to tear or leak at some point in time, especially if you daily drive it. Sure, you can drive one in the snow and the world won't end, but in the long run it's going to be more of a headache.

As was mentioned by a couple other people - on the street you spend most of your time in the lower rpm's which is why you would want more torque. On the track you care much more about how much power you are making up high in the rpm's, which is why race cares favor high revs over low end torque.

**Just remembered - the S2k also has a smaller gas tank than the Z.
