Default Used 350z Drivers - Need Your Help!

Hows it going guys

Im looking to buy a used 350z. Ive been searching the forum past few months, reading tons of threads about almost everything about the car. I know there are numerous threads in regards to car mechanic problems but ones Ive read so far dont specify whether their car was purchased new or used.

My question is this.

For you used 350z drivers, what sort of mechanic problems do/did you have on what year(05~08) and trim? Problem can be anything ranging from minor to major: window acting up, gauge reading inaccuracy, or motor blowing up at ##k miles or etc.

Did you purchase the warranty? A good idea to do so? I read a thread about a guy whose motor blown up on freeway the day after he got his Z. This happens to only a few people out there but I dont want to be one of those few people. Ive been waiting for a long time for this and I want everything to be ensured of no problems.

Sorry if this is a repost. I just couldnt find such thread...

There is never any guarantees. I had mine (used with 74k) checked by my personal mechanic before I would buy it form a dealership. 2 weeks later the throttle body sensor dies... 700 part, got them to replace it with labor for 500 (no warranty of any kind). Sense then haven't had any issues (going on 5 months).

I would imagine that the only reason an engine would blow like that is if it was (poorly) F/Ied. Cant say I've ever come across a blown engine that was from 'normal' wear and tear. Has it happened, sure, likelihood, extremely low .

I bough gap with it, which was a good thing because once the insurance got a hold of the car they said I overpaid and refused to cover 100% of the car, so gap will save my butt if anything ever happens .

I'd say just stay away from dealerships, know what the car is worth, grill the owner on its history. really look for signs of abuse, what has he done to it? does it seem like it was done in taste or just strapped on to make a joy ride...(stay away). I know it'll be your baby but remember, parents love their children in spite of their flaws :P, until they give up and sell it

the guys who buy used generally only drive their cars in the range under 3k RPM's for 20 minutes max. Past that they risk blowing their motors big time. I've seen a few make it to 27 minutes but they were lucky to get that far before their motors blew up. They even damaged cars next to them, causing more insult to injury by having more to pay and insurance issues for damaging all these cars. Kind of looked like this

that guy had major sh*t with the local authorities.

Seriously though if the car has been well taken care of and shows signs as well paper trail evidence that it has been maintained you should have little problems. Ask the owner to provide documentation and verification of any and all work done to it. Hopeful from a reputable place/dealer for major parts (if still under warranty). Be extremely prejudice, if it looks like a punk kid, it probably is and just imagine how they treated the car. If it looks like a respectable adult who takes care of themselves STILL check the car.

not sure if youve ever purchased a used car before. but look for the common signs. Road scrapes underneath, paint issues, road rash on wheels, how does it drive? what do the tires look like? how many sets of tires did they go thru? why?(if it is a lot) cover your butt, dont make a mistake, research research research.

350z is a solid car if taken care of, minor issues here and there for each year but nothing to major.

The only thing on my ride is that I can't get the lame tire pressure sensor light to go off... Just check and I guess the official name is Tire Pressure Monitor System, but its just a minor irritant.

Have the sensors reset.

Have you looked at the RSX. You get performance and reliability in a single package.
